Hi,

I'am trying to get the LaunchPad msp430G running with a linux machine. The linux version is Linux Mint 20.

The CCS (version 11.1.0) tells me, that there is no connection to the launchpad. It is connected via USB. (What else?)

The error message is "Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found"

I have downloaded the driver ti_msp430driver_setup_1.0.1.1-linux64.zip

But after expandig the zip-file, the Linux system tells me, that it can't deal with the expanded bin-file.

What to do?

Did you run the install_drivers.sh script with sudo after installation?

thanks for the quick answer!

I have downloaded the above mentioned ZIP-File.

There is no "install_driver.sh" script in it. It is just a .bin-File.

The Linux-System can't handle bin-files...

It is not in the zip you referenced. It is in the CCS 11 installation directory:

Can you clarify which launch pad you are using?

The old MSP-EXP430G2 is not supported under Linux.

The replacement MSP-EXP430G2ET is supported under Linux.

Thanks for the answer! The LaunchPad is the version MSP-EXP430G2 Rev. 1.4

I have several of these elder versions on my desk. I don't think these are rubbish. I you use them to develop products.

Should i throw them away, just because a newer version is available and the software does no longer support the elder ones?

This would produce waste, which could be avoided.

In case of these elder devices are really no longer supported using linux, i have to switch back to windows 7. This is my plan B.

But this is not what i expect from a company, that should be aware of ecology and longer term of product life.

The MSP-EXP430G2 uses an old debug interface called eZ430. Due to a hardware component it uses this product has not been able to be supported on Linux or macOS. To address this gap a few years back the MSP430 team released a new G2 LaunchPad (MSP-EXP430G2ET) that has a newer debug interface and is supported on Linux and macOS. The MSP-EXP430G2 continues to be supported on Windows.

The CCS installer should display a screen that lists the MSP430 boards that are not supported on Linux. MSP-EXP430G2 would be in that list.

So i have to switch back to windows with the existing LaunchPads. In the future i will purchase the new version.
