Getting CCS4 update error message: You cannot install in the site "file:/C:/Program Files ...

I use CCS4 for MSP430 developments and now intend to also use it for Piccolo and Stellaris. I do not use it for high end DSP.

Today I attempted to update CCS4. It downloaded all files (approximately 300 MB) successfully.

Then it throws error:

My Computer configuration:

CCS4: Node locked license, CPU: i5-760, OS: Windows 7 (32bit), RAM 4GB (Usable 3.16 GB), NVIDIA graphics card, 1 TB Seagate Harddisk. CCS4 installed at default locations.

All installed software, except CCS4 update, are working fine. Even CCS4 existing installation is also working fine. Only issue is happening during update.

All retries give same error message. If I quit CCS4 and start again, all download starts from beginning. At the end, it throws same error message again.

Why can't CCS4 retain what it has downloaded (until it is satisfactorily installed)? What do I do to get rid of the above error? Please help.

TI needs to enhance few things about this (otherwise fairly good) compiler, especially deal with mountain-sized updates which unluckily fail only at the end and vanish from the hard drive. Honestly, I have spent more time in wrestling with CCS4 (and its updates) for past few months than the time I could fruitfully spend on my application code itself. The compiler itself seems fairly good, probably because it is GCC internally (and uses Eclipse IDE). My appreciations to TI team for the stable operation of the CCS4 compiler/ide.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Regards.

  • Suresh,

I had this issue in the past when I installed my copy of CCS in the C:\Program Files and left the User Access Control (UAC) turned on. I am also using Windows 7 (but 64-bits).

Although I had some success when I enabled full control access to Users the directory C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments (see the screen attached), the most recommended procedure is to install it in a directory other than C:\Program Files (there is a warning when installing CCS for the first time).

Newer versions of Windows (Vista/7) are more protective of the critical areas of the system through UAC, therefore the issues and the recommendation.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Dear Rafael Desouza,

I did exactly as you had suggested and it FULLY solved my problem.

I miss words to thank you for your help. Indeed you are an expert.

After the update, it had failed to recognize my .lic file and said "23 days remaining".

I moved the .lic file out of c:\program files\Texas Instruments and kept it at c:\

(i.e. root directory). Then it started accepting same license file again and

now says "licensed" in the title bar. I have kept it there permanently.

After completing entire update procedure, I restored the Permissions

for c:\Program Files\Texas Instruments" and now all is well.

    Once again, thanks a lot.

    warm regards

  • Rafael, All

May be you can help me too. I am using  C5535 EZDSP USB kit and when I tried to do "connect target" I get an error stating

"C55xx: Error connecting to the target: (Error -600 @ 0x0) A required dynamic library could not be located. The library isn't on the search path. (Release 5.0.429.0) "

I cannot seem to figure out what is missing.

    Note:

I have already tried UAC modification and re-start - did not work.

I have installed the CCS in C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments. Is it really required to remove it and re-install elsewhere?

I am able to run the audio demo - so clearly the USB connection for audio for record and playback works fine between laptop and the board

The board boots up fine and the graphic display works fine too.
