XDS-510 USB2.0 support on Code composer studio v3.3

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F2812, TMS320F2809, TMS320F2808

Hi all.

I am planning to purchase a TI XDS510-USB2.0 emulator to be used with Code composer studio IDE and TI C2000 series MCU.

I need following information related to XDS510-USB2.0 emulator.

1) Code composer studio IDE versions supported by XDS510-USB2.0? Will it support Code composer studio v3.3?.

2) Will it support C2000 series DSPs controllers specifically Texas Instruments TMS320F2812,TMS320F2809,TMS320F2808 controllers.

3) Compatible Operating Systems for XDS510-USB2.0. For which OS drivers are available for XDS510-USB2.0.

Any inputs on this will be helpful.

Thanks

  • Hello!

I can't remember TI's XDS510 emulators, and those being offered at ebay and ali look as fakes. I am certain Spectrum Digital was producing this type of emulator, so if you see SD - that might be good.

Spectrum Digital XDS510-USB works perfectly with CCS v.3.3. The latter implies it works best under Windows XP. There are chances one may run both on Windows 7, there are number of reports and tricks on the forum. I remember I was able to run them on x64 version of Windows 7, as SD was providing x64 driver as well. I saw however a report that those tricks did not work with Windows 10.

One may chose to run Windows XP in virtual machine. That is working solution, provided there is a driver for host OS. Then USB device could be unplugged from host OS but plugged into guest OS. Worked with VMWare, Virtualbox.

  • Amit,

As Victor mentioned there are a lot of XDS510 clones/fakes out there.  Some of them are of really poor quality.

The ones from Spectrum Digital and Blackhawk were the most popular.  Spectrum is no longer in business and Blackhawk discontinued their 510 products years ago so you would need to find them from a secondary market.

With XDS510 class debug probes you also need to get drivers from the vendor.  The drivers did not come with CCSv3.3.

Spectrum drivers are available here: http://spectrumdigital.com/spectrum-digital-inc/docsdrivers/

Blackhawk drivers are available here: https://www.blackhawk-dsp.com/support/ccsv33-downloads

Windows XP was the last OS that CCSv3.3 officially supported.  So running it on a native XP machine or in a Virtual machine is recommended.  This document has some information on how you can try to get it going on Windows 10: https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/ccs_ccs33-windows10.html
