Using Code Composer Studio Version 4 with C6748 DSP

I tried out the instructions mentioned in the page which Aarti mentioned, however, I faced a problem when I tried to "Create a new target configuration" following the instructions under the heading "XDS100v1 embedded emulation - DSP only". As per the instructions mentioned in the video, for connection, I chose, "Texas Instruments Simulator". But I could not find any device named "TMS320C6748". Does any one have any idea on why this is happening?

The example video "Create a new target configuration" referenced here just shows the steps of creating a target configuration file and happens to create one for a simulator rather than a target device. It is there to familiarize you with the process of doing it. The actual selections you need to make are "Texas Instruments XDS100v1 USB Emulator" and "TMS320C6748" as shown in the page:

My question was that after I selected "Texas Instruments XDS100v1 USB Emulator", I could not find any device named "TMS320C6748" in the list of devices. Do you know why this is happening?

Did you download the microcontroller core (code size limited) version? That version only support MSP430 and C28x.

Actually, I installed CCS from the Version 4 CD. What should I do to get the C6748 device?

What is the version on that CD? What is the full version number of the CCS version you have installed (Help->About)?

I am using Code Composer Studio Version 4.0.1.01001. I find C6747 listed in the devices, but not C6748.

Can you update your version to the latest ('Help->Software Updates->Find and Install')?

I tried to upgrade the software, but found some errors with that. The errors which I found was:

Debarati - It looks like the user account you are using with CCS does not have full administrator privileges and this is a problem if you have CCS installed in the default "Program Files (x86)" folder. You need admin privileges, otherwise it is recommended to install CCS outside the default location.

I am also a bit surprised to get this error, because I am the only user of this computer and have administrative privileges. I will try to install it in a location outside the default location.

As per your suggestion I could upgrade the version of CCS4 to 4.2.3.00004 in a different computer. However, I still do not find "TMS320C6748" listed among the devices when I selected "Texas Instruments Simulator", or "Texas Instruments XDS100v1 USB Emulator", or "Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Emulator" for creating a new target configuration file. Can you please suggest what I should do?

The different computer you installed on... was it outside the default 'Program Files (x86)' folder and it was a clean folder (there was no other CCS installation in there)?

Thanks! As per your suggestions, I installed CCS4 freshly in a new empty folder under the C drive, and now I can find "TMS320C6748" listed among the devices. I am having some trouble with the subsequent steps. When connecting to DSP cores in the C6748, follow these steps:

1. Launch the Target Configuration created above
2. Select the top line of C674x_0 and right-click Connect Target
3. Now you are ready to start loading code and start debugging.

I could perform the previous step, where I added the gel file (downloaded from the LogicPD website) to the target configuration file. I right clicked on C674x_0 as per the instructions, however, am not able to find an option called "Connect Target". Can you please tell me how I can connect to the DSP using CCS4?

After creating your target configuration, you need to launch a debug session for it. One you launch a debug session, the option to connect to the target will be available.

See the below video for an example of how to start a debug session for a target configuration and to connect to the target:

Can you please provide me with a link that provides some examples on how CCSv.4 can be used with TMS320C6748(OMAP L-138)? I am looking for some basic programs, e.g. a basic talkthrough program (between the signal generator and the oscilloscope).

However, I find that, in the highlighted piece of code, the statement within the while loop always remains zero. Can you please tell me, what exactly is the function of i2c->str & ICSTR_ICXRDY and what is going wrong?
