CODECOMPOSER: Object Files Specifying Incorrect Memory Model

I am new to Code Composer Studio and am trying to set up all of my linking correctly. I keep getting an error that states that various object files are specifying a small code/data memory model, which is not compatible with large code/data memory model specified. I had to set the code/data memory models in the project properties to large since it was giving me issues saying that only a large data model supported for this ROM. Is there a setting that I need to set to change this?

I am using an MSP-FET flash tool to program an MSP430FR2675 device. The CCS version I am using is 12.0.0.00009.

Hi,

I do not think the MSP430FR2675 can support large memory model. Because the FRAM size of this MCU is just 32KB. Small memory model is enough for this MCU.

Here is a link which might help you understand the large/small memory model. http://hunteng.co.uk/support/appnotes/mem_mod.htm. It is using a C6000 instead, but the basics are similar.

Hello,

Thank you for the response. I have changed my memory models back to small. However, when I do that, it gives me an error "Only large data model supported for this ROM". This is with code that I generate using Captivate Design Center. How can I fix that error?

Hi Eric,

So, the code generated by the Captivate Design Center can not be built in the CCS? This does not look right.

Have you modify the generated project? Have you add other files into the project?

Hi Cash,

Initially, I added code and changed some code. Then, I started running into these issues, so I deleted the code completely and regenerated the code from Captivate Design Center without making any edits to it. I just ran it again, and am seeing this issue.

The error seems to be originating in the rom_captivate_msp430fr2676_family.h file in the captivate/BASE/rom_headers folder and the rom_driverlib_fr2676.h file in the driverlib/MSP430FR2xx_4xx/rom_headers folder

I was able to figure out what is going on. I am using the MSP430FR2675 which is part of the FR2676 driver families in the driver libraries. However, they also included the drivers for the FR2633 and the FR2522 families as part of the generated code from CapTIvate. I thought that it would be able to select the correct driver based off my target settings, but it was not. I ended up deleting the undesired families from the drivers, and it is now compiling.

Just get back from holiday. It sounds like a Captivate design center issue. I will discuss with the team and check what we can do about it.
