CCSTUDIO-SITARA: AM263x Control Card Reset and restart doen't work

Dear all,

we are working with AM263x Control Card Evaluation Module (EVM) to develop our project. During debug somentimes we need to reset and restart microcontroller but it doesn't work!!!

This problem also occurs with the example project 'hello_world' present on the mcu_plus_sdk_am263x_08_04_00_17 (hello_world_am263x-cc_r5fss0-0_freertos_ti-arm-clang).

After loading the project on the EVB, the fisrt time it starts correctly but if we pause the debug then reset the CPU, restart and press Resume, the code goes in HwiP_data_abort_handler!!!

We investigated further and we discovered that after reset and restart, if we proceded step by step, the global variables are not initialized!!!

We are using:

CCS version 12.1

mcu_plus_sdk_am263x_08_04_00_17

sysconfig_1.14.0

Hi Gianni,

Can you please confirm what reset are you performing? Is it the CPU Reset being done from the CCS studio or the PORz? Also, when you say restart and resume are you loading the application's .out also after the reset issued?

CPU Reset, restart and resume are perfomed from the CCS studio.

Okay, this will issue only the core reset so should be fine.

This is an issue, once the CPU reset is given, you need to Re-load the .out again into the CCS. I believe the boot mode on EVM is No boot (CCS boot mode)? If yes, then as I told before the .out should be re-loaded again to properly re-run the code.

No, the boot mode on EVB is QSPI (4S) - Quad Read Mode (all switches are OFF).

As i said before, after restart, if we debugging step by step (F6), the application seem to be ok but the data (global variables) are not initialized and for this reason at a certain time the code goes in HwiP_data_abort_handler. So the problem is that after reset and restart the data section (where the static and global variables are placed) is not re-initialized. Is the GEL or the SBL that initialize the data section?

Hi Kowshik,

we solve our issue.

In debug configuration we use a --rom_model instead of a --ram_model. Now, every time we perform a CPU reset and restart it works like a charm.
