Error Connecting to MSP430F1611 Target after Update of CCSv4

Using CCSv4, two processors were routinely used in development including debugging: MSP430F1232 and MSP430F1611.  After updating CCS (to 4.1.3.00038 and then later to 4.2.3.00004) debugging the MSP430F1232 was normal; but debugging the MSP430F1611 resulted in a “Error connecting to the Target:  Could not find device (or device not supported)” error dialog box. 

 

The MSP-FET430UIF pod is used (with 7/8 wire interface to target board; a Softbaugh B1611 development board).  It may be important that after both updates, when beginning the first debugging session, the CCS indicated that a FET software update was necessary and this was performed (requiring about 10 seconds). 

 

Manually invoking the debugger worked correctly until connecting to the FET, then the same6558.Connect Problem July2011.doc error message was issued. The USB1 option was selected, and all others gave an error that “…, only found 1 USB FETs”.

    Hi Bob,

    I am wondering whether the Sofbaugh board has a dependancy on the firmware version running on the FET.  

    I would suggest trying the following and please keep me informed whether it does the trick

    - run the updater in CCS to ensure you have not only 4.2.3 but also any updates

    - try letting CCS automatically find the FET rather than specify the USB port

    - clear any conflicting/previous CCS versions

    There is a free flash programming  tool from Elprotronic (www.elprotronic.com)  that you can use in order to manage the firmware version on the USB FET.   This should also help you.

    Hi Lisa,

     

    Good Suggestions.  It did the job!

     

    I downloaded the new firmware to the FET tool (using the Elprotronic website) and I forced the update for CCS.  Then the debugger launch and Target Connect worked flawlessly.

    Glad it helped.    The Elprotronic software is good for managing the FET Firmware like that.
