CCSV4 - can't Save Memory in different sizes

Hello,

I want to save an array as 16 bit words, to a file on my local PC. But the save dialog has the size selection and swap greyed out, as shown in attached picture. And the actual resulting output file contains 32 bit words. Please advise?

Hello Robert,

When saving as a *.dat (data) format, the type-size is fixed to the size of a word. That field is only applicable for binary formats.

There is a discussion about the memory save details in the forum thread below. Depending on the extension given to the output file, it locks some of the configuration selections in this window.

Give a shot renaming the file to a different extension and see if you can achieve different results.

I had actually reviewed that one, before posting ;) And tried different file extensions. And it appears that any extension that allows setting the different sizes, also writes the file in binary format. I need it in ascii format. If your experience is different, please let me know.

So it appears either way, I'll have to hack up an intermediate utility, to translate the results, i.e. ascii 32 bit to whatever size I want, or binary format to ascii. (something that wasn't required prior to V4).

I don't believe anything changed since v3. You were never able to specify the type-size with the CCSv3 'File->Data->Save' format either.

Hi Ki,

Ok. Part of my response, though, was that I had used V3 for 16 bit DSP, and now V4 for 32 bit DSP. With V3/16 Bit, 16 bit was the typical data type, so no change was needed to save it in ascii format. 32 bit long occasionally was needed, but that could also be generated via the "Long" option, in ascii. With V4/32 bit DSP 16 bit data is also a commonly used data type, but not possible to get in ascii format with the data save functionality. But maybe that is the way it was for V3/32bit DSP also.

Either way, put me down as requesting being able to save different memory sizes in ascii format, regardless of DSP word size ;)
