Setting up CCS3 with XDS510 on new PC

The <sdgo28xusb.drv> is designed to be used with Spectrum Digital emulators, therefore I assume you were using one in the previous PC. If so, please download the device drivers from Spectrum Digital's support website at:

I have downloaded the latest Spectrum drivers.  It seems CCS3 is still using the same drivers.  I went here: http://support.spectrumdigital.com/ccs33/ to get the latest drivers.

I did select xds510 under platform.  I don't have a ezDSP as shown in the screen capture.

What error message are you getting?  One common problem I have seen is that people will have an older build of CCSv3.3 and a newer build of the Spectrum Drivers.  They will then get some errors when trying to launch CCS.  This can be resolved by getting the latest CCSv3.3 build (I can provide a link in a private message if needed).

Usually the error message associated with this problem has a driver filename with "cla" in it.

Just adding to John's reply, can you see xds510usb emulator on the CCSetup program? This is the configuration used for Spectrum Digital's emulators as mentioned in their Emulator Guide.

If you can't see this, I wonder if the installation did not complete correctly (or you are having the issue mentioned above by John).

I think Rafael may have nailed the problem.  YOu are probably selecting an XDS510 Emulator configuration and not the XDS510USB Emulator.  That is a big difference.  They are both XDS510 class emulators (there are many different models), but it is very important to select the correct one.  If you have the Spectrum Digital XDS510USB emulator you HAVE to select the XDS510USB emulator configurations, otherwise it is going to use the wrong drivers.

I am running CCS 3.3.83.19.  If that is not the latest, please send me a link.

I don't see emulator "configurations"  I have attached an image of what I am seeing on my setup.  Notice that the driver is called tixds28x.dvr.  On my old PC this is using the sdgo28xusb.dvr instead

So I just noticed that my old working PC has a xds510usb emulator selection and my new PC has xds510 emulator (w/o usb).  So it seems somehow the Sprectum drivers did not install   I correctly. Should I uninstall CCS3 and reinstall?  I have already re-installed the spectrum drivers.

Do not uninstall CCS.  There is nothing wrong with your CCS installation.

Are you able to change the "Platform" drop down to "xds510usb emulator"?  If it is not present in the drop down list then you do NOT have the Spectrum Digital drivers installed into this CCS installation.  It could be that you ran the installer more than once.  The way the Spectrum installer works is that the first time it runs it installs the drivers, the second time it uninstalls the drivers.  So if you cannot select "xds510usb emulator" then close the CCS setup program and install the Spectrum digital drivers.  Make sure to install them where you have CCS installed.

I just uninstalled the spectrum drivers and reinstalled here.  I do not see xds510usb... in my drop down list.  The drivers I selected are from this link: http://support.spectrumdigital.com/ccs33/Release-30330/Patch_030330_XDS510USB_22sept2010.zip.  I tried contacting Spectrum Digital and did not get a response back.

That is a "patch" for their drivers and not their driver installation.

If you look in your CCS installation directory in the \drivers folder do you see a sdgo28xusb.dvr file?

Yes.  It is there.

If you Click on "My System" in the left tree, then click on "Create Board" at the bottom in the middle area.  Do you see "SD510USB Emulator" listed as an Available Connection?

If you are able to see the SD510USB Emulator that I noted in the previous post then follow these steps:

Select the SD510USB Emulator and drag it to "My System" on the left

A dialog will open.  Specify a name for the connection and click "Next"

Then click Finish

Now drag "TMS320F2800" onto the "SD510USB Emulator"

A dialog will open.  Give the processor a name.  You can also specify a GEL file.  If you click in the box for the GEL file a browse [..] button will appear on the right.  Click on it and choose the f2808.gel file.  Then click "OK"

Your setup should now look like this.  Click "Save & Quit", then launch CCS.

So I have the correct driver file, sdgo28xusb.dvr on my hard disk at C:\CCStudio_v3.3\drivers. 

But I don't see XDS510USB Emulator on the create board list dialog.  I see "TI XDS 510 emulator" without the USB.

The list of connections that show up in the create board list is determined by xml files in \drivers\targetdb\connections

SD510USB_Connection.xml is what triggers "SD510USB Emulator" to show up.  Is that file present?

Yes, I have SD510USB_Connection.xml under C:\CCStudio_v3.3\drivers\TargetDB\connections

Is your CCS installation also in C:\CCStudio_v3.3?  i.e. please confirm that the shortcut that you use to run CCS actually goes to that directory.  

Wow that seems to be the problem.  I also have a c:\CCSStudio_v3.3MCU folder.  I am uninstalling and reinstalling now.
