CCS4 update fails

I tried to update CCS 4.2.1.00004. using the software update item within CCS. The process ended with the message: Uable to complete action for feature "Code composer Studio"due to errors. Details: permission denied to several files in the program directory.

I'm working on Windows 7 and I'm working on a users account (no administrator privileges). Can this be the reason? In case it is, what would be the solution?

  • Hi Bernhard,

unfortunately this is a Windows7 issue.   In order to make almost any modification to programs ... installations, etc, you need the correct permissions.   This unfortunately includes updates as this is an install/modification.

I usually run CCS in administrator mode for example.

The only potential "work around" might be if your permissions just for CCS could be expanded.   That might be worth trying.

Sorry not to have better news for you.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I tried to run CCS in administrator mode but I received an requet for teh licence file. At that point I stopped because I hoped there was another solution. Perhaps you could tell wht this licence fiel issue might be.

    thanks

  • Hi Bernhard,

what is the exact problem?  Could you send a screenshot?

Is it that you are having problems with the license?  Or with updating and permissions?

Anyhow ... if you send some more details I will do my best to help!

    Best Regards,

  • Lisa,

when I open the CCS as admin I'm asked to select a workspace. So I guess CCS assumes me to be a new user. Then I'm asked to specify a licence file. This is like when I reinstall the CCS. Can I just copy the license file into the administrator account?

    best regards,

    Bernhard

  • Hi Bernhard,

You should be able to point to the license file that is on the PC.   Please give it a try.  If you still have issues, just let me know, but the licenses are usually tied to a PC not a user account that I understand.

    Cheers,

    Lisa
