Using both of C6747 and ARM9 in OMAPL137 simultaneously from CCS

Hi everyone,

I know most of people prefer to program their ARM core from Linux, but it is still possible to use CCS. I'm using CCS V3.3

My question is, is it possible to run codes on both of C6747 and ARM9 cores in OMAP-L137 to speed up my code ? I need to know details on how to do it, memory portion that can be shared and does SDRAM can be shared too ?

Is there any example on this issue ? I also tried to find any project example for only ARM core in CCS, but unfortunately nothing found.

Rizuan,

In CCSv4/5 there are some example BIOS templates you can use. I don't know of any for CCSv3.3.

You may also want to see if you can leverage SitaraWare to get ARM9 examples.

Hi John and other,

Thanks for the replies. I really need to make sure that CCS V4 support the dual processor in the OMAP-L137 (C6747 and ARM9) so that I can utilize both cores to improve the performance. This is to make sure that I make the right decision to buy $445.00 Code Composer Studio V4.

Does anyone here have or working on this specific board for the specific task (dual core utilization, improve the performance) ?

Hi Rizuan,

My advice is, skip CCS V4 and go directly to CCS v5.1. You will be glad you did. CCSv5.1 is much improved over anything before it.

I would also suggest you directly to SYSBIOS (Bios 6) so that you can take advantage of some of the new System Analyzer tools that exist in CCSv5.1. They will give you the visibility you need in a multi-core architecture (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Multicore_System_Analyzer_Tutorials).

There is also a multi-core architecture Wiki somewhere. I just can't remember exactly where it is.

Then you will need to understand how to create a boot image for multi-core applications. That in itself could take a while. However, Jeff has created a very helpful Wiki (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Boot_Images_for_OMAP-L138) that gives you some insight into the nuances of how to create the AIS files.

Thanks. I'm downloading and installing the CCSv5. I'm on CCSV3.3 and hope that I can export my project to CCSv5 as what have been done from CCSv3.3 to CCSv4 before.

Even the link you've given is for OMAP-L138, I really hope it will be the same for OMAP-L137 that I'm using now.

Rizuan,

Just make sure you back up you CCSv3 files/workspace before opening them with CCSv5.1. The project files are in a different format and you must allow CCS to convert them for use with v5.1.

Yes, the L138 link also has info on l137.
