MCSA Tutorial with CCSv5.1 Live Parameter window hangs

Guru 15580 points

While working through the MCSA tutorial #1, when I attempt to run MCSA Live, after selecting an analysis feature (ie CPU Load), when I click Run the window hangs and requries a restart of CCS to resume. I can never get beyond this point.

Suggestions?

Thx,

MikeH

  • Mike,

It is possible that the 'Auto Detect' configuration is not picking up something correctly. Can you try switching your to manual configuration and see if that helps:

    - A the top of the Launch Dialog, select 'Create UIA Config File'. This should open the UIA Config dialog showing the current configuration (which is the auto-detect)

    - In the UIA Config dialog double click on the 'Event Transport' row. This should open the Event Transport dialog

    - In the Event Transport Dialog select 'JTAG' for Transport Type and click OK to exit dialog

    - In the UIA Config Dialog, double click on the EndPoint  TMS320C66x_0 this will open the Endpoint dialog

    - In the Endpoint dialog, verify that the .out, .uia and .rta files are correctly set. May also want to verify the Clock Freq. Click OK to exit dialog

    - In hte UIA Config Dialog click 'Save' and save configuration to a file of choice

    - In the Launch Dialog, click on the '...' button and select the Configuration file just saved

Now run System Analyzer and let me know if you have better success. If not can you try a new workspace.

What does "correctly set" mean? The .out and .uia and.rta files pointed to are in my project/debug folder. Is this what you mean?

No dice. Same problem. Window hangs.

  • Mike,

Yes I was asking to check the path to .uia and .rta files as sometimes build scripts move these and auto-detect is not able to find them ... seem like your are correctly setup.

Can you give me some more information on your target setup: are you using h/w or simulator? Which emulator? Which target board, EVM6678?

    Regards,

    Imtaz.

Here are *precisely* the steps I have followed.

  • Mike,

I tried on 6678 Cycle Accurate Little Endian Simulator and EVM6670 with a Spectrum Digital XDS56v2 LAN emulator (will try on EVM6678 with a Spectrum Digital XDS56v2 Lan emulator shortly) on CCS5.1 M6 and successfully got data. I am on a WinXP 32 bit machine.

The tutorial facilitates simulation/emulation, C64X+/C66X targets and is not specific on the emulator. Maybe something particular to your setup will help to reproduce the problem here.

  • Mike, I ran tutorial1 on EVM6678 with Spectrum Digital XDS560v2 Lan emulator and 6670 Cycle Accurate Little Endian Simulator also and could not reproduce the problem. Let me know if you're using a different setup than CCS5.1 M6, WinXP or one of the target configurations I tried.

  • Imtaz,

I am using CCS5.1 M6 (build .06019) Windows 7 and, as the Tutorial suggests, am using the  C6678 Device Functional Simulator, Little endian (I do not have the EVM6678). I also just tried the 6678 Cycle Approximate Emulator with similar results (window hangs).

  • Just to close this off ...

We had a WebEx session with Mike and he is now able to run the System Analyzer Tutorial. We suspect that the problem had to do with a stale System Analyzer view stuck in his workspace. The System Analyzer is designed to tear itself down on shutdown so how that view got there we're not certain ... will try to see if we can recreate this scenario.

In case there is a stale System Analyzer view in the workspace it should be closed before running the System Analyzer again. I'll file an entry to track this issue.

    Regards,

    Imtaz.
