Cannot activate license for EVM6678L

Hi,

When I try to activate CCSv5 (under Linux), CCS offers the following options under Code Composer Studio Licensing Info->Upgrade:

1. "Use license you already have":  However when I use the license file provided on the CD (CCSv5.0-EVM-C6678.lic), CCS advises when debugging that the license will only work for XDS100 class emulators, simulators, or EVMs/DSKs... with onboard emulation.

2. "Activate a new license":  This requires me to provide an Activation ID. It states that this would be either have been provided in an email, or on a piece of paper in the EVM's package.  I can't find said license in either place.

There is also the option under "Manage" to add the license location to a list.  This also advises that the license will only work for XDS100 class emulators, simulators, or EVMs/DSKs... with onboard emulation.

Please advise what I should do.

Regards,

Bernard

  • Bernard,

If you received your copy of CCS with your development board, you should use 1) above. It corresponds to the free limited license that allows complete debug in the development board or in your custom board if you get a low-cost XDS100 emulator.

    Check: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Licensing_-_CCS#License_Types

  • Rafael,

You wrote: "If you received your copy of CCS with your development board, use 1)" .  I didn't use the copy of CCS that came with the development board, but tried to activate the license against a previously installed CCSv5 5.03.00028 instead of the earlier version that came on the CD. Do I need to install the CD version first, establish the license, and then upgrade to 5.03.00028?

  • Bernard,

No, you don't need to reinstall the previous copy of CCS as per your description it automatically picked up the license of the previous version.

However, if CCS shows Unlicensed at the bottom you have to select the license file. Since you mentioned that "when I use the license file provided on the CD (CCSv5.0-EVM-C6678.lic)", I assume that you are able to locate the license file that is included in the original CD that came with your kit. In this case you don't need to install the older version and then install the new one, you simply browse to its location - the new version will use it.

  • Rafael,

I am unable to activate the license using the process you describe for CCS Version 5.03.00028 under Linux. However, it does work for Win7.

I just downloaded CCSv5.1.0.07001 and did a clean install in Win7 and Linux, and still have the same problem.  i.e. When I select "Use a license file you already have....." and select the license file that was delivered on the EVM CD (CCSv5.0-EVM-C6678.lic), the Linux install remains unlicensed.  This process does work on the Win7 install for CCSv5.1.0.07001.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,

    Bernard
