Ubuntu installing ccs 7 fails

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SEGGER

On Ubuntu

So if I use the web version to install ccs7 as that is what the instructions for a phytec board is telling me to do it fails, tells me to post to a forum, lets me fill in the stuff then says tough poop that didnt work any better than the installation.

I tried the alternative 'full install' version which took an age to download, that gets part way through and then just hangs doing the square root of zero.

I can install version 12, So I thought woopee, who cares about the old version then I get to the phytec instructions

Install Code Composer Studio Configuration Files

PHYTEC provides files to help ease the CCS configuration process when targeting the phyCORE-AM57x RDK. Run these commands to install these files for use with CCS:

cd $RTOS_INSTALL_ROOT/PHYTEC
cp -f am572x_phycore_rdk.xml $RTOS_INSTALL_ROOT/ccsv7/ccs_base/common/targetdb/boards/
cd $RTOS_INSTALL_ROOT/PHYTEC/gel/
cp -rf am572x_phycore_rdk $RTOS_INSTALL_ROOT/ccsv7/ccs_base/emulation/boards/

If you installed CCS into a directory other than the one recommended above, you must change the path in the above command to reflect your CCS directory.

At this point there is no sign of this rdk.xml file at all, so I am up a gum tree with 12 as well.

Does anyone have a solution to be able to connect an imx8 board successfully to the XDS110 debug probe or do I go and get my wife to send the segger probe from my workshop over?

BTW the 7 installer just pops up and says installer failed to install some huge 500 character name thirdparty.feature.group correctly

I would guess from that someone has moved a repository and stuffed the install? Seems likely given

I want to connect to a phytec board, while I see the cortex processor supported on the https://www.ti.com/microcontrollers-mcus-processors/arm-based-processors/products.html page I dont see any phytec versions or indeed imx8

  • And more fun, after the error is reported you can give TI an installation report... only when you do you get a window saying submit failed get further assistance from the forums... please please please please there are various applications to test websites, there are various applications to test install programs, there are various applications to monitor when your website users are hitting brick walls... can someone at TI please go and look these up, get them installed and please actually test the stuff? Software engineering these days is 0.0000001% doing anything useful and the rest of the time fighting the tools, half baked and completely wrong instructions, lack of documentation, lack of consistency, lack of caring a damn

  • What Ubuntu version are you using?

Please note that CCS 7.x is very old and unsupported. I would recommend trying to get things working with CCS 12.5 if you can.

At this point there is no sign of this rdk.xml file at all, so I am up a gum tree with 12 as well.

I do not believe that rdk.xml file comes with CCS. It likely comes from some PHYTEC package.
