Error while debugging on CCSv4.2.0 on 64-bit Windows 7 compiler

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5513, CCSTUDIO

I have code that was working perfectly on my old laptop which was an XP, 32-bit and the same (perhaps a slightly older version of CCS ver 4.1.x). When I ported the code over to my new laptop and installed CCSv4.2.0, I am getting the following error when trying to debug.

I generated new license and tried it but that didnt fix it.

  • Hello,

What emulator and target are you trying to launch the debugger for?

    ki

  • I was launching the MSP-FET430UIF for debugging the MSP430 evaluation board running MSP430F5513.

  • I this your license your license you are trying to use?

    'TMDSCCS-HWN01A-v4.0.lic'

That is the free bundled license which does not support MSP430.

    ki

  • Hi Srikrishnan,

How did you generate the new file?  Using our "my registered software"?  Did you install and point the flexlm license manager correctly to the new file?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Yes, I did use the "my registered software" to generate the license. I used the license file mentioned in Ki's message. If that was the incorrect license, is that a recent change made in the tools, because I used a license generated the same way on my older laptop for the MSP430 and that seemed to work. How do I generate license (restricted or otherwise) to emulate and debug the MSP430?

I also did not use any flexIM license server.

I used the link in the picture below to point to the license file.

    Thanks,

    Srikrishnan

  • Hi again Srikrishnan,

did you have a floating license?  Only a floating license can be ported and needs a server.

Please read the following and go through it and keep us informed ...

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your inputs. I do not have a floating license. I have the stand alone free license and I had to enter my physical MAC address to generate the license. I think the license that I generated does not support the MSP430.

I am looking for a way to generate a license that will act as a stand alone and allow me to debug the MSP430.

    Thanks,

    Srikrishnan

  • Ki/Lisa,

I tried looking around but couldn't find it. Can you please point me to a place where I can get a free license that does support MSP430?

    Thanks,

    Srikrishnan

  • Hi Srikrishnan,

You need to select "Use free limited license".  The free MSP430 license is code size limited.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • I am refering to in the screenshot you posted.

  • Lisa,

I did select that option and had the license file emailed to me. I then selected the option on the screen shot to load that file. Ki seems to think that the file does not support MSP430.

I find that strange because I had used a similar way of generating a license for my older laptop that worked alright on my MSP430.

    Thanks,

    Srikrishnan

  • Ah, ok ... I see what steps you did.  Let me put together the steps you need for the MSP430 version ... Ki is right ... that button is actually not for the MSP ... sorry for the confusion!

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Srikrishnan,

Ok, download and install this version from the link below

Download latest production MSP430/C28x code size limited image

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Download_CCS

    http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/forms/self_cert_export.html?prod_no=setup_CCS_MC_Core.zip&ref_url=http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/CCSv4/latest/

Note on the above page it also states:

. If you are using the MCU Core download it will automatically generate a license on installation and no user action is required.

    Please keep me informed.

    Cheers,
    Lisa
