I get the following error message when I try to connect to the DKLM3S9B96 demo PCB
"Error connecting to the target:
Device is not a LMI device."
I have 2 other demo boards that I can connect to without trouble using CCS4
any ideas?
Thanks!

Thank you for the quick reply.
the kit came with a dvd when we first purchased it last year which I think has a version of CCS4 that will only work with the demo kits. I was able to use the kit then. we then purchased a full
ccs4 license at some point after that. we have several other demo pcbs that I have been using mostly and they work fine. I just tried switching back to the 9B96 today and started getting the problem.
Thank you.

What kind of license did you purchase? Was it a full microcontroller license ( TMDSCCS-MCUN01)?
How are you connecting to the board? Are you using the on-board emulation (connecting a USB cable directly to the kit)?
What is the full version number of CCS that you are using?
I've tried connecting using both the USB connection directly to the 9B96, and then connecting via USBto one of the other working demo PCBs and then to the 9B96 with the JTAG. Version is: Version: 4.1.2.00027 I'm not sure how to verify if it is a full microcontroller license, but I believe so. we originally used it with some of the demo PCBs and then used one of the demo PCB's to connect to a custom PCB via the JTAG. Thanks!

You should be able to tell by the name of the license file you received via e-mail. A microcontroller license file name should look something like: TMDSCCS-MCUN01
I'd also suggest updating you version of CCS. It is a bit old. 4.2.4 is the latest.
You have a full microcontroller license.
Did you try the upgrade to 4.2.4?
Joe,
Did you ever try connecting/programming the board with LM Flash programmer? That would give another data point and help confirm if the board itself is ok.
I just downloaded and installed LM flash programmer and tried it.
I get the following error message
**ERROR** failed to initialize target.
I also noticed that the reset button and the user button do not appear to work. I checked with a multimeter and could not get them to conduct when pressed. I desoldered both buttons and tried again with CCS4 and LMflash and I get the same messages.

Did you try unlocking the debug port (it is in the Other Utilities tab)? You would need to select Tempest class for LM3S9B96. This usually helps recover the device but if this does not, I would suggest posting to the Stellaris forum. If you cannot communicate to the device via LM Flash Programmer then the issue is independent of CCS. The folks in the Stellaris forum should be able to advise you if this means the device and/or board is faulty and how to proceed next.
Good idea! That did it. I can now program it with LMflash programmer and CCS4
Thanks AartiG!
