MCT8329EVM: MCT8329a EVM GUI is profoundly broken

Part Number: MCT8329EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCT8329A

Opening the GUI in firefox or chrome on an M1 macbook gives the error that the TI cloud agent is out of date and prompts me to redownload it.

the .dmg file provided is not mountable. Trying to open within finder returns the message "The disk image couldn't be opened". Trying to open it in terminal with `hdiutil attach` gives the output:

Checksumming whole disk (unknown partition : 0)…
...............................................................................
whole disk (unknown partition : 0): verified   CRC32 $7487CCE8
verified   CRC32 $E8FD17DA
hdiutil: attach failed - no mountable file systems

This is a deeply frustrating issue. I return to this EVM software every few months and every time there's been a problem getting it up and running.

I don't understand why a piece of software that does nothing other than serial communication with a piece of hardware on my desk requires any kind of cloud connectivity. Nor do I understand why it would demand an update from whatever version of TICloudAgent I had and then provide a broken download link.

Last time I was able to work around this by downloading the standalone gui app, but that no longer works either.

  • Hi Pierre,

Apologies for the issues that you've encountered with the MCT8329A GUI.

I've forwarded your issue to our GUI composer team, and I'll get back to you as soon as I get a response.

    Regards,
    Eric C.

  • Hi Pierre,

    Sorry for the delayed response.

I've asked our GUI Composer team about this error that you're seeing, but they haven't seen this issue and were not able to replicate it (on a M1 MacBook air with latest MacOS and on a M2 pro). It could be that the TICloudAgent .dmg file may be corrupted.

Could you please provide your MacOS version?

I'm moving this post to the Code Composer Studio forum since the issue is related to TI Cloud Agent.

    Regards,
    Eric C.

  • Hello Pierre,

My apologies for issues that you are having with the application. Myself and another engineer tried to download and install cloud agent on M1 and M2 mac books, while on TI network and also off TI network. We did not run into any issues that you are describing.

We also used the same utility as you to get checksum on cloud agent and they are different. See picture below

There were no update to cloud agent component in the month of April, thus our checksums should match. Would you be able to go to main dev.ti.com landing page (i.e. http:dev.ti.com  which should show a page as it looks  in screen capture below), it should also have a link (just below device selection drop down) to download and install cloud agent. Would you be able to try downloading/installing cloud agent this way to check whether you get a checksum same as shown in picture below?

    Thank you,
    Martin
