FET430 Unusable After Firmware Upgrade via CCS v5.1M8

I don't wish to seem alarmist, but..

My USB FET will no longer work with M7 on Windows 7, or MSP430_Flasher on WinXP after receiving a firmware upgrade from M8.  It will still work with M8 on Windows XP, but it will not even pass enumeration on Windows 7--it generates 3 monotonic notes (I'm not sure what that means).

I guess I'll be moving to M8 on my laptop as well--but I need to use the MSP430_Flasher on occasion.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Regards,

--Mike

  •  Hi Mike,

I suspect this is simply due to the firmware revision of the FET and msp430 dll obtained upon downloading M8.   CCS automatically tries to manage the firmware on the FET.

Could you please try the following and keep me informed whether it helps.

Download this free flash programming tool with which you can record and manager the firmware version on your USB FET.   www.elprotronic.com

Connect your FET and read the firmware version.  Try cycling it back and see if you can use your Win7 setup.

If you cannot connect to or read the FET firmware from the Elprotronic flash programmer please let me know.  We can continue from there.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • There should be a utility on your Windows start menu after installing M8 that ill allow you to downgrade your firmware.

  • John,

M8 and the downgrade utility were the only apps able to see the FET.

I ran the downgrade utility and then checked the firmware version with FETPro--it indicated that the firmware was newer than the newest available, so I rolled it back.

Now it works with CCS M7 again!

Thanks, John & Lisa for all the help.
