CCS4 with TFS - Problem Occurred.

There is Team Foundation Server plugin for Eclipse, yet I get an error while CCS4 is installing it.

The update manager first displays: Installing plug-in "com.microsoft.tfs.jni" files:os/win32/x86/native_auth-9.dll

Then I get a "Problem Occurred" window that says: "Unable to complete action for feature Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server plug-in for Eclips due to errors.

I tried the process multiple times. Please help.

  • Hi,

A few things to try: have you ever installed this plugin in CCSv4 before? If not, maybe someone else in your team? Can you try installing it in CCSv5? What about installing it in a standard Eclipse 3.2 (the version used by CCSv4)?

Although several other code collaboration and version control plugins work in CCSv4 (check here), the compatibility is heavily dependent on the plugin manufacturer - in this case Microsoft.

Also, keep in mind that this may not be possible at all. Although CCSv4 uses Eclipse (version 3.2), several changes were made to the standard Eclipse to better accomodate our required features.

  • Hello,

A while back I also attempted to install the TFS plugin with CCS4, yet I gave up. But now I need it badly.

Others in my group installed this same plugin with Eclipse, yet not with CCS4.

TFS in not in the list of plugins you gave me. So, maybe it is not supported.

I wonder if anyone tried and had the same experience.

    Thanks,

    Talal

  • Talal,

I managed to successfully install the TSF Eclipse plugin in my CCSv4.2.4:

    1. Downloaded the zip file from here and unzipped in an arbitrary place in my disk;
    2. From within CCS, go to menu Help --> Software updates --> Find and Install...
    3. Select Search for new features to install. Click Next.
    4. Click on New Local Site and point to the directory where the zip file was extracted. Click OK.
    5. Give a name for the plugin (I chose Team Foundation Server). Click OK.
    6. An installer will execute. At the end, CCS needs to be restarted.

After restarting CCS, I enabled the Team command in the perspective.

    1. Go to menu Window --> Customize Perspective...
    2. Select tab Commands and scroll down to enable the option Team.

Now, if you right-click on a project you will have the option Team and you can Share Project. The Team Foundation Server option shows there.

At this point you will need to follow the instructions from Microsoft to properly license and use the plugin, but I think it should be working fine.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Hello,

I tried what you recommended. I even uninstalled my previous version of CC4, which is 4.2.3, and I installed version 4.2.4. Fortunately, it gave me details on the error. It is below.

Unable to complete action for feature "Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server plug-in for Eclipse" due to errors.
      Unable to create file "/C:/Program Files (x86)/Texas Instruments/ccsv4/eclipse/plugins/com.microsoft.tfs.jni_10.0.0.201003261741\os/win32/x86/native_auth-9.dll". • I forgot to say:I am running on Win7, 64-bit.

  • Talal,

That's the problem. The User Access Control (UAC) feature of Windows Vista and 7 prevent proper operation of CCS when installed under C:\Program Files, therefore it is strongly recommended to install CCS in a different directory. You can also enable complete permissions to the Texas Instruments directory under it, but it is not guaranteed.
