MSA Bugs and Feature Request

Expert 2430 points

Rather than spam my other thread, I figured I should start an independent thread about this.

In regard to the Multicore System Analyzer component of CCS:

Bug (Major)

When terminating a debug session, the MSA link--for lack of a better term--is not always fully terminated which results in the "System Analyzer Live Session: Logs" tab still being present when relaunching the debug session.  If one does not remember to manually close that tab, then trying to launch a new session will result in CCS locking up indefinitely. (Must end Eclipse task via Windows Task Manager.)

Bug (Minor)

I haven't tested the other filter windows, but for the "System Analyzer Live Session: Logs" view, if one closes the view, the filter window remains open but forever unattached.  Reopening the Logs view requires a new filter window to be open.  (The old Filter windows remains, but, again, is non-functional.)

Bug (Minor)

In the Execution Graph window, when expanding the processor nodes, more often than not the graphs for the last processor in the list will not be drawn.  A work-around is to resize the window.

Bug (Annoyance)

The Execution Graph window will grab focus (i.e., become the foreground window) simply with mouse movement.  In other words, normally, one must click a window to bring it to focus, but Execution Graph window will also auto-focus simply by moving the mouse over it.  This is annoying because it will hide other windows one may be trying to get to, like the Filter windows, for instance.

Feature Request

May not be possible, but it would be nice if in the Logs view the displayed columns (or manually hidden columns to be more precise) would be remembered between sessions.  (Remembering the column widths would be nice, too.)

  • Hi Alex,

We are going to try to reproduce, file some of these.   Can you please provide more detail.

    - which version of CCS are you using?

    - can you confirm that these are reproduceable across a couple projects/workspaces?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Alex,

Can you please provide a few more details.  I have worked on trying to reproduce this behaviour, eg in the MSA tutorial project and from what I can tell see none of this.   MSA seems to close fine for me when stopping the debug seesion, I have not seen crashes etc.  You are correct the filter window does not automatically close with the log window, but I had no issue to close it separately and continue on later.

I have been trying the tutorial project in CCS 5.1M8.5.

    Please keep us informed.

    Best Regards,
    LIsa

  • Hi Alex,

I just wanted to let you know that we are investigating this.  I have seen a GEL file throw an exception and will keep you informed as we investigate.  However, as mentioned, any further details and information would be useful.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • CCS v.5.1 (M7) [as you know, M8/8.5 breaks other components (like the NDK), so I can't upgrade to it]
    bios_6_32_03_43
    ipc_1_23_03_31
    xdctools_3_22_02_27
    uia_1_00_01_17

About the "crash," I didn't say it crashed.  It just locks up indefinitely.  I think you need to be testing this on real hardware, not a simulator, because it locks up when you click the Run button and it goes out and polls the hardware.

No, I don't have another application I can test with, nor, unfortunately, do I have the time bandwidth to create one to work on my platform.  I did try a fresh workspace, though, and that made no difference in anything I reported above.

And yeah, I can close the Find window, too.  It's still a bug, though. ;-)

  • Alex,

Thanks for the feedback. See comments below regarding these.

[Imtaz] This problem was fixed in the latest CCS5.1. The view may still not be closed (we're still working on this) but it will not lock up CCS.

[Imtaz] I was able to reproduce this ... will file a bug report to address it.

[Imtaz] We are already tracking this request and will hopefully have it in upcomming release of CCS.

    Regards,

    Imtaz.
