Migrating DSP project to newer DSP/BIOS

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSBIOS

Hi - I upgraded CCS from Version 4.0.1.01001 to 4.1.2.00027 (I'm using the Spectrum Digital XDS560R emulator on a 6455, so this is the newest CCS version I can use).  Since DSP/BIOS is included with CCS, my DSP/BIOS changed versions from 5.40.02.22 to 5.41.02.14.

My project builds, runs, and I can emulate it with the XDS560R, but I get a build warning: "This project was created using a version of DSP/BIOS tools that is not currently installed: 5.40.02.22.  Please install the DSP/BIOS tools of this version, or migrate the project to one of the supported versions."

If I bring up Project - Build Properties - CCS Build, the DSP/BIOS version is set to 5.40.02,22 (old version).  If I change the version in the combo box to 5.40.02.22, press the "Apply" button, a Save Build Configuration Settings dialog appears.   I apply the changes to the exisiting build configuration.

I then get a warning dialog "Problems encountered while initializing build-configuration 'Debug' of project 'xyz'.  Please see the 'migration.log' file, in the root of the project, for details."

Only problem is that I can't find the migration.log file anywhere!

Can anyone give me some hints as to what is going on - where to find the log file, what error may be occuring, whether I'm upgrading to the new version of DSP/BIOS correctly, or how I can install my old version of DSP/BIOS into this version of CCS.  There does not seem to be a separate installer for DSP/BIOS.

Thanks for your help, George

  • Hi George,

I hope the following information helps.

DSP/BIOS can be found separately from here:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:DSPBIOS

It is not a problem to have an use multiple versions if needed.  I have included links to these wikis as well about migration and the new SYS/BIOS.

Please let us know whether you find all you need off of these pages.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Lisa, Thanks for your suggestions.  The archived versions of DSP/BIOS did not include the one I had originally used, so I decided to try another approach.  I simply created a new project using the current 5.41.02.14 version of DSP/BIOS and then added my exisiting tcf, configuration and source files and recompiled.  The warning message is now gone.  Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier.  I verified that I can still emulate and debug with the XDS560R - and as a bonus, I'm using the newer version of DSP/BIOS

I did enjoy reading about the new versions of DSP/BIOS (SYS/BIOS) and how it now can be used on the MSP430 now.  Cool stuff.

    Thanks & Happy Halloween.  George

  • Hi George,

ok, I am happy to hear you managed to get an error and warning free project with the new BIOS.

    All the best with development.

    Best Regards,
