Close the User Manual
CCS also closes and will no longer open that workspace.
Luckily I can import all of my previous projects into a new workspace.
Sorry. Let me be a bit more specific. Also, there was one error in my previous post.

Open the EDMA3 LLD User Manual (pdf)
Close CCS with the user manual still open.
CCS will no longer open that workspace.
This happens 100% of the time on my PC.
Did you install the tool in the default place: C:\ti? Or you installed in one of the UAC-controlled directories in Windows vista/7?
CCS is installed in the default C:/ti directory.

I found out the EDMA3 User manual was installed with the MCSDK package, and it did not fail for me - i.e., the manual opened nicely here, and the workspace was not corrupted.
However, I recall the MCSDK default install directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments but I changed it to install into C:\TI instead. Did you do this as well?
I am afraid the UAC may be interfering when opening this PDF...

I don't recall installing the MCSDK. What is the name of the install folder? I don't believe I have it on my PC.

I still could not reproduce this issue, even with everything installed in C:\Program Files (x86) and UAC enabled.
My question about the EDMA3 is because it is not part of the standard CCSv5.1 installation. It must either be a stand alone install or is part of a package - I mentioned MCSDK but any other package installed previously that contains the EDMA3 documentation could have this.
I will ask for some help in trying to figure out what may be happening in this case. In the meantime, could you check to see if you have an EDMA3 package installed by going to menu Window --> Preferences --> Code composer Studio --> RTSC --> Products? You can remove it if you open the tab Products and Repositories of the RTSC option (one above of Products).

Yes. I use EDMA3 in my current application and installed it long ago.
The problem appears to happen when the help window opens a .pdf document (I reproduced the problem with the PDP Getting Started Guide). You must also NOT have the TI Resource explorer window open to observe the problem.
What pdf reader does the Help window use? My default reader is Foxit Reader 5.0 if this helps.

By default Eclipse will follow the default PDF reader of the system, therefore it counts a lot.
I installed Foxit (5.1) but still could not have any trouble. However, one of the engineers looked at the thread and threw the following considerations:

Help system in eclipse is basically just a webserver and browser. Based on the call stack it appears to be trying to start an ActiveX object (presumably Foxit reader) and it is getting Access Denied exception.
I then went to foxit reader website and stumbled on this FAQ:

Could he try the suggestion in FAQ to see whether it resolves his issue?
I really couldn't yet reproduce this here, but I imagine the exact PDF document you are trying to open may have some characters or features that require downloading extra support to the PDF reader, thus throwing the error.
Regarding the workspace:
As far as recovering the workspace. I am not sure what is happening there. Is there any kind of an error message?.... maybe when it crashed the workspace .lock file was not removed? He should be getting a message that workspace is locked or may be that another instance of eclipse is using this workspace.
