The engineer doesn't use an SDK and uses the TI built in drivers

We're working on a TI TMS570 device

We use a makefile and the line of code that gets executed before failing is as follows:

  $(ARMCL) $(LFLAGS4CT) --entry_point ConfigTable --output_file=$(OUT_FILE) $(OBJ_FILES) $(CMD_FILE)

The variables are set as follows:

ARMCL           := $(CG_TOOL_DIR)/bin/armcl

LFLAGS4CT := $(COMMON_FLAGS) -z -m"$(MAP_FILE)"  --warn_sections --display_error_number --be32 --xml_link_info=./$(BTYPE)/build.xml

COMMON_FLAGS := -mv=7R4 --code_state=32 --float_support=VFPv3D16 -Ooff --diag_warning=225 --display_error_number --enum_type=packed

The error we see when calling this line:

C:/ti/ccs1011/ccs/tools/compiler/ti-cgt-arm_20.2.6.LTS/bin/armcl -mv=7R4 --code_state=32 --float_support=VFPv3D16 -Ooff --diag_warning=225 --display_error_number --enum_type=packed  -z -m"./Release/exe/CT.map"  --warn_sections --display_error_number --be32 --xml_link_info=./Release/build.xml --entry_point ConfigTable --output_file=./Release/exe/CT.out    ./Release/obj//ConfigurationTable.obj CT.cmd
makefile:80: recipe for target 'CT' failed
gmake.exe: *** [CT] Error -1073741819

Are you using a CCS project (which uses makefiles under the hood) or are you using your own custom makefile?

Enginnering is using a custom makefile

It was mentioned that CCS was used to build the project. If a custom makefile is being used, is an Eclipse CDT custom makefile project being used?

We aren't using an Eclipse CDT

I assume you are using a "Makefile Project with Existing Code" as mentioned in the link below:

This is the equivalent of an Eclipse CDT custom makefile project.

The key thing to note is that a CCS project is not being used.

If gmake is called directly on the makefile from the command-line, does the same error occur?

They are calling gmake directly on the makefile from the CLI

Following up for any updates on this issue.

As this error is a gmake error on custom makefile environment, it is difficult for TI to debug this on our environment. If it is on CCS we can easily debug and provide our support on this, as it is a custom makefile, Crane need to debug this issue.

We did some debugging and found the issue to be with using "" in our build scripts. Gmake throws an error when it is passed "". Why does gmake have a problem with ""?

Some formatting issue with makefile? Or something in your environment?

We don't have a lot of expertise with gmake other than that CCS will call it under the hood. We just bundle gmake as is.
