compiler for CC2540?

Dear all,

by reading old posts it seems that the only way to program TI CC2540DK mini, is/was by using IAR.

Is this still the case?

Apparently a license for that is about 1600 £, as the limited to 8K version (500 £) is not enough for the DK mini.

This is a bit of a problem for small business that are just evaluating a tool/chip.

Is there any other way around it?

Is there any plan to integrate the CC2540 into Code Composer Studio?

Is everyone programming CC2540 using IAR?

Hi Michele,

the CC2540 is based on an 8051 processor and is unfortunately not supported by Code Composer Studio. Also note that some of these processors that are application specific and are used with a software stack may have a stack provided that is precompiled IAR specific.

Yeah,

I was afraid so!

The problem is that IAR license is 1600 £ which is out of the scope of free time developers or small business that are trying to develop a proto/demo with it.

The other IAR license, limited to 8 K of code, is 500 £ but that is not enough neither to compile the sample code as the BLE stack is already bigger.

I hope this situation will change in the future.

I will also express my disappointment that it takes thousands of dollars just to get a small bluetooth project underway. After purchasing the tool chain and FET/JTAG to program the MSP430, you're asking me to spend another 3K to purchase IAR Workbench?

Two suggestions for TI:

1) Add the 8051 core to CCS

2) Make a Bluetooth Low Energy solution using the MSP430 core instead of the old 8051.
