CODECOMPOSER: logBufSink support in CCS20

Part Number: CODECOMPOSER

Tool/software:

Does CCS20.2.0 support logging through the ROV? As stated in the following link:

https://software-dl.ti.com/simplelink/esd/simplelink_lowpower_f3_sdk/9.10.00.83/exports/docs/ble5stack/ble_user_guide/html/ble-stack-5.x-guide/debugging-index-cc23xx.html#enabling-logging-in-ccs

I tried to enable the logging but there is no LogBufSink in CCS20.2.0 ROV window. Is this feature already supported? If not yet is there a plan to support it?

Best regards,

Shuyang

  • Hi Shuyang,

A few things to note in CCS 20 regarding ROV:

    • TI-RTOS is no longer supported
    • Only a subset of funtionality is supported compared to the ROV in CCS 20. This is driven by the SDK

The documentation you referenced is for the older SDK in CCS 12. The SDK experts can answer what the plans are to support the newer CCS 20 environment. I will bring this thread to their attention.

    Thanks

  • Hi Shuyang,

I have recently developed a SimpleLink Academy resource on logging options for the F3 SDK. It is not yet public; however, it should be published to TI Resource Explorer soon.

The suggested logging method using the F3 SDK is via the LogSinkUART sink, which can be viewed either using a terminal, with Wireshark, or it can be written to a JSON file.

Please let me know if you have any questions about how to do this.

    Regards,

    Nico G

  • Hi Nico,

Thanks for the update. I am aware of the usage of LogSinkUART, but CC2340 only has one UART, which is already used to interfacing with a host MCU, there is no UART left for LogSinkUART.

Is there a plan to add the LogSinkBuf support for CCS20? It will be helpful for devices like CC2340 which has only 1 UART.

    Best regards,

    Shuyang

  • Hi Shuyang,

I have reached out to the team that implemented the logging feature to learn if there is a plan to add LogSinkBuf support for CCS20. To my knowledge, there isn't one, but I will follow up with you when I learn more.

    Regards,

    Nico
