CODECOMPOSER: Looking for: "<installedPath>\tools\compiler\compiler\c6000_6.1.15" and "<installedPath>\tools\compiler\compiler\c6000_6.1.21"

Hi,

Reference:  CCSTUDIO IDE, configuration, compiler or debugger | TI.com

We need two relevant CCS installers that support the mentioned compilers.

Despite reviewing all files in the installer zip, the compiler version information could not be located.

How can the specific compiler version contained within an installer zip file be determined without extracting or installing its contents?

Found some useful links from George Mock :

Release Notes for C6000 Code Generation Tools v6.1.18 through v6.1.23? - Code Composer Studio forum - Code Composer StudioTm︎ - TI E2E support forums

Code Generation Tools for Texas Instruments Processors : Downloads - Downloading failed from our office.

Found "C6000 Code Generation Tools v7.3.0", but not seeing the older releases.

Note: Some "Release Notes" show the Compiler version#.

George

  • Hi George,

Are you looking to see what versions of the compiler are bundled with a particular version of CCS? If so, what CCS versions are the installer for?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Ki,

Yes, I'm looking for those compilers bundle in the CCS release(s). I need those compilers to rebuild some projects. The CCS installer package had the following critical information: JAVA support and legacy chipset support (Single Core DSPs [C6000 Single-core Device Support, TI C6000 Compiler], and Multi Core Processor [C64x Multi-core Device Support]).

Unfortunately we lost all the original CCS installers, but still have information of the compiler version.

    Regards,

    George

  • Unfortunately we lost all the original CCS installers, but still have information of the compiler version.

Are you interested in just the compiler installers for that version or are you looking for the CCS installers that bundled those compiler version?

Those compiler versions are quite old so I assume it was being used with an old version of CCS.

  • Hi Ki,

We need the CCS installer that bundles those compiler version.

It's a legacy issue that we've to support the customer.

I've used a newer CCS6.1.1.00022_win32  (Complier 7.4..14) for another project. Due to some logistic issues. I had to  link some older libraries (built with one of those old compiler) to the new project.  If we can't locate the older CCS releases, we have to configure all those lib projects with the new CCS6x.

Could you recommend a newer CCS release that supports JAVA//legacy chipset support (Single Core DSPs , and Multi Core Processor)?

    Regards,

    George

  • We need the CCS installer that bundles those compiler version.

    CCS 4.1.3 comes with C6000 compiler v6.1.15

    https://www.ti.com/tool/download/CCSTUDIO/4.1.3.00038

The next version of CCS after that is CCS 4.2.0. However, that comes with C6000 compiler version v7.0.3.

Hence the CCS version used in the past was likely CCS 4.1.3 and C6000 compiler v6.1.21 was additionally installed standalone afterwards.

  • Hi Ki,

Thank you for the quick response.

    Regards,

    George

  • Hi Ki,

It looks like that our colleague had installed the stand-alone compiler v6.1.21 onto the previously installed CCS 4.1.3 few years ago,

I'm not sure how we got the stand-alone compiler v6.1.21.

Recently another colleague has used this same method to install the stand-alone compiler v6.1.21 onto the installed CCS 6.1.1 to replace the new compiler v7.4.14 with the older v6.1.21.

We must provide this CCS tool configuration in all future software release via the SBOM file.

Is this stand-alone compiler replacement method still valid for CCS6.1.1?

  • Is this stand-alone compiler replacement method still valid for CCS6.1.1?

It is possible to have CCS discover and use standalone compiler installations. Please see the sections on compiler discovery and compiler selection in the below document:

  • Thank you so much for your help!!!

  • Hi Ki,

A former colleague has released a package with some binary images built using two compilers. Now the customer wants to know the differences between the compilers v6.1.15 and v6.1.21.

    1. Where may we find such information?

2 Which CCS that bundles C6000 compiler v6.1.21?

    3. CCS 4.1.3 release note, README_FIRST.txt refers to http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Release_Notes_CCSv4 - Is there another link?

    Regards,

    George

  • Just FYI, I'm not a compiler expert so I don't have any personal expertise. But...

    1. Where may we find such information?

I was able to dig up all the release/readme info I could find on both versions.

I zipped them up and attached them below:

    c6000_6.1.15.zipc6000_6.1.21.zip

2 Which CCS that bundles C6000 compiler v6.1.21?

None. CCS 4.1.3 come with v6.1.15. The next release of CCS is 4.2.0. That comes with v7.0.3.

So v6.1.21 was never bundled with a CCS version. It was likely acquired by update (or a standalone compiler package provided from some TI person)

    3. CCS 4.1.3 release note, README_FIRST.txt refers to http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Release_Notes_CCSv4 - Is there another link?

Our old wiki has been decommissioned for some time. While we migrated some of the newer content to other locations, we didn't do so for some of the old unsupported version like CCSv4.

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Ki,

WOAAAAAAAAAA! Quick response - Thank you so much!!!
