Updating CCSv5

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6748

Hello,

I was trying to check for updates for CCSv5.1.0.0900 but if I go to Windows->Preferences->Install/Update->Available Software Sites the "Available Software Sites" is completely empty so I cannot update anything. Any idea which .xml file I need to import so I can have that list?

Thank you in advance,

David.

  • Hi David,

let me look into this with some colleagues for you as I have recently seen a similar thing.  The available software sites being cleared.

I will get you feedback as soon as we have some.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi David,

I will send you the xml file offline later today.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi David,

I just sent the xml in a friend request.  Please just let me know whether you get it and are able to import it fine.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I've accepted your friend request but I haven't received any files, also looked into Files section but it's empty.

    Best regards,

    David.

  • Hi David,

I just tried again through a conversation.  Let me know if you get it this time.  If not .xml may be being filtered out so I can rename it.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi David,

thanks for the verification and message.  Glad to hear the updating worked with the xml file.

    Best Regards

    Lisa

  • Hello again,

I've tried to update the software via Help->CHeck for updates menu, it show Spectrum Digital and Code Composer as available updates, but fails to update with the following response:

An error occurred while collecting items to be installed
    session context was:(profile=epp.package.cpp, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Collect, operand=, action=).

  • Hello,

Since automatic updates are failing, I've installed the latest version of CCSv5 (5.1.1) and now when I try to build a project that was working before, now I receive:

    **** Build Finished ****
    Buildfile generation error occurred..
This project was created for a device-variant that is not currently recognized: TMS320C67XX.TMS320C6748. Please install the device-variant descriptor, or migrate the project to one of the supported device-variants.
    Build stopped..

How do I migrate from CCSv5.1.0 to CCSv5.1.1?

    Thank you in advance,
    David.
  • HI David,

we are looking into the update issue since there has been another case or two of this.  So we are trying to track it down.

Can you please describe how you migrated the project to the new installation?  Did you install the same device support options?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I just reused the workspace since there are many folders and is controlled by subversion. Seems that the new installation also doesn't recognizes that I have installed previously BIOS PSP, EDMA, StarterWare and some other libraries (I've installed them in C:\Ti folder as well as the CCSv5).

I've found the other cases but without any solution. I hope a full reinstallation is not required because that would take me quite a while.

    Best regards,

    David.

  • HI David,

please try the following to help resolve some of the issues

    - import your project into a fresh workspace

    - add the tools by going to these two places

    Window->Preferences->Code Composer Studio->Build>Compilers

    Window->Preferences->Code Composer Studio->RTSC->Products

Please keep us informed how it goes.  You should not need to reinstall all the XDC/BIOS versions if you did not delete the directories.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Also, I did reuse the same options at installation, I've selected C6000 Single Core to install, however the TMS320C6748 variant is no longer available when I try to create a new project in a new workspace, only up to C6746. I've seen CCSv5 it was searching for products but it still couldn't find the other packages.

  • Hi David,

another note.  Have you tried selecting the generic 674x option?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I just tried to view the options you mentioned into a new workspace, seems that Compilers section reports TI v7.3.1 [C:\ti\ccsv5\tools\compiler\c6000] and the RTSC Products section reports the DSP/BIOS(5.41), SYS/BIOS(6.32.5.54), Interprocessor-Communication(1.23.5.40), XDAIS(7.21.1.07) and XDCTools (3.22.4.46).

EDMA and BIOSPSP were recognized and I can create new projects with Sys/Bios. I assume StarterWare is not necessary to be recognized since I import it as library path anyway.

Same problem however if I try to create a new project, TMS320C6748 is still missing and importing the projects generates the same missing variant problem.

    Best regards,

    David.

  • Selecting Generic C674x option sort of works, seems that importing projects into another workspace completely wipes out all the paths specified in Project Properties->Build->C6000 Compiler->Include Options as well as Project Properties->Build->C6000 Linker->File Search Path for libraries and their paths. Also a library project type was converted to executable so importing means lot of work reconfiguring the projects. I think this is the last time I do an upgrade for this environment, unless there are serious bugs.

    Thank you,

    David.

  • Hi David,

I am glad we got you through the upgrade "jungle" and all I can say is sorry for your bad experience with it.

    All the best with development.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Apologies, I should have phrased my last sentence as "not to upgrade when under time pressure", I don't consider it was a bad experience since I learned how to fix my workspace and also benefit from your kind help, which is really appreciated. This environment is a very nice tool and cost effective so I'm happy is available to engineers, it got me up and running with my hardware in half the time of other environments I used in the past.

    Thank you and best regards,

    David.

  • HI David,

no worries :  )  And thank you for the kind comments.  We do our best to help our customers like yourself!
