TMS320F28P650SK: CCS20.5.0 NOT BUILDING ASM CODE WITH NO WEB ACCESS. NOT HAPPY !!

Part Number: TMS320F28P650SK

Hello guys, another bloody problem....

The iMac that CCS20.5.0 is installed on is not connected to the web due to hi security risk.

When I build the ASM program CCS20.5.0 tries to connect to a TI server for some reason and it just waits until I press the reset button and then CCS20.5.0 restarts. Grrrrrrr.

It should NOT have to contact any webserver to build any programs, everything CCS20.5.0 needs should already be installed locally when CCS20.5.0 was installed.

NO, sorry but this iMac is strictly no internet access period.

CCS20.4.1 worked fine even with NO internet access but CCS20.5.0 does not.

How do I fix this?

Peter

  • Hi Peter,

CCS20.4.1 worked fine even with NO internet access but CCS20.5.0 does not.

There should not be any dependency on internet access to build. I tried CCS 20.5.0 on both my Windows 11 laptop and my macBook Air running Sequoia 15.3, both without any internet access, and they were able to build projects fine.

What macOS version are you running?

Can you try cleaning your cache?

    Thanks

  • Hi Ki, thanks for your reply. We are using MacOS 15.7.4 Sequoia. Every time I choose DEBUG or FLASH my ASM program CCS20.5.0 says "Reconnecting to TI Cloud Agent..." and it just waits as this machine is not connected to the web. I choose CANCEL and CCS restarts.

Why would it be saying that when our machine is not connected to the internet? Somethings going on here.

Also I looked into cleaning the CCS cache as you suggested and on the support page it says to go to these folder and delete the cache.

    [USER HOME]/Library/Application Support/Texas Instruments/CCS/.ccs-server

    [USER HOME]/Library/Application Support/Texas Instruments/CCS/[CCS INSTALL FOLDER NAME]

Our Mac does NOT have these at all. Which Mac OS are they for? There is no Texas Instruments after the Application Support folder.

Should I delete CCS and reinstall?

    Peter

Ah ok. TI Cloud Agent is a little debug agent used by the CCS debugger. The name is misleading since TI Cloud Agent can also run locally with CCS desktop (which is your environment). It is mainly used during debug and not project build. Instead of trying to debug the project, if you only explicitly do a build action, does the error still occur?

They should apply to all supported macOS versions. I see with my Sequoia macOS. Library is a hidden folder but sounds like you are past that and don't see the "Texas Instruments" folder. That is odd as that is the default location for the CCS cache.

  • Hi Ki, no this only happens when I DEBUG or FLASH. Building is fine, no probs there.

    Peter Slight smile

  • I just posted a similar question, and did not see that you seem to be having exactly the same issue, Peter.

Ki, although the "Reconnecting to TI Cloud Agent" message did occasionally appear in 20.4.0, it was always after terminating a debug session. It was annoying, but manageable. Now, in 20.5.0, it appears when INITIATING a debug session, which makes it impossible to connect to the target. It effectively stops all development, so we need this fixed asap please.

  • Hi Doug, so I'm not the only one. OK Ki, time to fix this so we can get back to work.

Ki I have removed CCS20.5.0 from our machine, should I reinstall it and wait for the fix update or will you release a CCS 20.5.1 and I install the updated version?

The root cause has been identified. Please see:  RE: TMS320F28P650SH: CCS 2.5.0 Reconnecting to TI Cloud Agent Catastrophic Bug

The best option is to start with a clean new 20.5.0 installation.

    Thanks

  • Hi Peter,

We now have updated device support packages available that can fix the "broken" CCS 20.5.0 install (if you still have it).

Please see my post here:  RE: TMS320F28P650SH: CCS 2.5.0 Reconnecting to TI Cloud Agent Catastrophic Bug

    Thanks

  • Thanks Ki. I've downloaded the latest CCS and its now working perfectly so production is back up and running.

Oh, a SPECIAL REQUEST. Can you PLEASE add assembler label support to CCS20? What I mean is that CCS12.8.1 in the project explorer my ASM program is listed there. I click on the arrow next to the name and a list of my ASM LABELS in my ASM program lists there. If I need to jump to a ASM routine fast I can click on the LABEL and it takes me there with one click.

In CCS20 there is NO ASM LABEL LIST. Would it be possible to ADD this feature to CCS20? Its pissing me off in CCS20 if I'm aft a specific ASM routine I have to scroll up or down my ASM program to find it, which also take more time than needed. So can you ADD this feature to CCS20?

Please let me know. Thanks again for the update and FIX.

    Peter

  • Peter,

I assume you are referring to your thread here:  TMS320F28P650SK: CCS20.5.0 Where is the ASSEMBLY LABEL WINDOW????

I'll reply directly to that thread and close this one.

    Thanks
