beaglebone driver installation using CCSv5.1 provided emulator drivers

Hello Folks

this is regarding the drivers for beaglebone on windows 7 x64. I am having problems getting the bone connected to my host. I tried installing the 64bit drivers provided on the beagleboard website but it looks like they are broken (as was confirmed from a quick google search). So on further probing, came across different methods to get it working. One of the guys mentioned that the drivers provided with CCSv5.1 also work fine for the bone.

In his own words: "I have previously installed Code Composer Studio, which installed the XDS100v2 drivers onto my system. It so happens that these are the drivers with the correct VID/PID for the FTDI chip on the Beaglebone. When I connect the Bone, the XDS100v2 drivers are the ones that load, followed by a USB-serial driver". But for me, even after installing the CCSv5.1, I am not able to get the beaglebone connected to my laptop which is a windows 7 x64 machine. I would appreciate if someone was able to get the bone to connect to a windows 7 x64 machine using the drivers provided with the CCSv5.1 . Furthermore, methods to get the bone connected to the machine outside of CCSv5.1 are also welcome.

Hello,

You should be able to connect to beaglebone via on-board xds100v2 using 5.1 on Win7-64. I just tried that out successfully. You may want to uninstall those original drivers that had the issues. Sounds like those are still being picked up and not the ones that came with CCS

Hi,

Just adding to Ki's response, if you don't have Linux running on the board (if you remove the SD card, for example), the device manager may show an unknown SUBARCTIC device but the two TI XDS100 channels are still properly initialized. Check the attached picture.

Hi people.

Thanks for the input. Yes before installing the CCSv5.1 I did remove the driver package provided by the beagleboard folks. In fact I even reflashed my laptop so I now have a brand new windows system.

But after installing the CCSv5.1, I still cannot get the bone to mount. I installed the CCSv5 with the default options. Did you guys actually manage to get your beaglebone auto mounted or did you had to 'point' windows to look at the right place? I believe the installation of the driver package must anywayz copy the relevant drivers that come along with the CCS to be copied to the system32\drivers folder but still if I am required to install the drivers like a legacy device is added (by having disk) I could do that as well..

I ran into the same issue and wanted to share what worked for me so hopefully it'll help someone else. You'll need to use the driver from the FTDI web site for BeagleBone boards Rev A5+. More information can be found here:
