How to use register for global variables

I am working with C64x+ core. In one of the application i want to use a register for a global variable. I know its some thing odd but i want this functionality. Is there any work around by which we can allocate global variable in a fix register and the compiler should not touch that register?

Please see the C6000 Compiler Users Guide, section 6.7 wich describes using the register keyword to allocate variables to registers.

Hi Aarti

I have checked the section 6.7 of the document you specified but this doesn't answer my question. I want to allocate a global variable to a register. I understand that locals and parameters can be allocated to register. How can we do it for globals. I hope you got my point.
