CCSv5 Beaglebone starter questions

Hi Rafael,

I am newcommer in beaglebone and I have some trouble with CCS. I loaded LEDBLinking output program on the borad and it worked well. Now my first problem is that how can I debug my C code? I mea I expect i set brakpoints in the c code and run it step by step? for this I should debug the code but the debugger can not verify the memory at 0x80000000. And the reason is I should run scripts " DDR Config" befroe debugging. Could you please guide me step by step to debug my program?

Amin,

The debugging process is highly dependent on what you are trying to achieve, therefore I can only give you references that show the tool capabilities and will help you debug your project.

The first reference is the CCSv5 Getting Started Guide, which is a step-by-step guide that explores the several IDE features. At this point i suggest you look in the section Project Debugging.

Also, the AM335x Starterware is a collection of example software that helps you use the different peripherals of the device. Its Getting Started Guide has all the information necessary to start using it:

would you please tell we what is the role of codesourcery in CCS?

Also, would you please tell me how CAN I access DDR RAM without run scripts, if you know?

I fixed the link. Sorry.

CCS supports Codesourcery as any other GCC compiler. Check this page.

The GEL script contains the initialization sequence written in C-compatible source code. Simply copy the initialization routines for EMIF and other required peripherals (PLL, etc) to your source code and call them from your boot routine. Be sure to remove any GEL specific function calls (like Gel_MapAdd and others). The CCS Help has a reference on the GEL API.

For initial debugging purposes, the GEL script is the most convenient way to perform development as you will not need to deal with bootstrap/bootloader routines.

Rafael Thanks, Now I can Debug my code step by step. I just added "OnTargetConnect(){ DDR2_EMIF_Config();} " in the end of GEL file. Amin
