Floating License Server Issues

Hello,

We are running a floating license for our Lab computers.  We followed the steps (from http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/License_Server_Administration_for_CCS) outlined in the email that was sent along with our license file after registering and activating on TI's website.  All software installs without error, and the FlexNet server is running and the configuration can be accessed through the web browser.

In the vendor daemon configuration, when the vendor daemon server is started, it switches to the running pending state, and then goes back to the stopped state.  Upon checking the tidspssw log file, the following is found:

15:34:49 (tidspssw) EXITING DUE TO SIGNAL 32 Exit reason 9

and also in "lmadmin" log:

2012-02-28 15:30:07,612 root.User User admin has changed their own password.
2012-02-28 15:32:06,821 root.Vendor (tidspssw) stopped.
2012-02-28 15:32:06,822 root.Vendor (tidspssw)maximum number of start retry is reached.
2012-02-28 15:32:06,822 root.LicenseEngine (tidspssw) exited with status 32. (Exited because another server was running)
2012-02-28 15:32:16,759 root.Vendor (tidspssw) stopped.
2012-02-28 15:32:16,760 root.Vendor (tidspssw)maximum number of start retry is reached.
2012-02-28 15:32:16,760 root.LicenseEngine (tidspssw) exited with status 32. (Exited because another server was running)
2012-02-28 15:32:29,937 root.Vendor (tidspssw) stopped.
2012-02-28 15:32:29,938 root.Vendor (tidspssw)maximum number of start retry is reached.
2012-02-28 15:32:29,938 root.LicenseEngine (tidspssw) exited with status 32. (Exited because another server was running)
2012-02-28 15:34:50,018 root.Vendor (tidspssw) stopped.
2012-02-28 15:34:50,019 root.Vendor (tidspssw)maximum number of start retry is reached.
2012-02-28 15:34:50,019 root.LicenseEngine (tidspssw) exited with status 32. (Exited because another server was running)

We have also tried uninstalling / reinstalling all software related to the license server.

Thanks for any help,

Jacob Zurasky

  • Hi Jacob,

can you please make sure the manifest file is there.  Can you also ensure there are no port conflicts.   Are you sure all other vendor daemon instances are removed?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa,

Thanks for your quick response.  The file "tidspssw.exe.manifest" is in the same directory as "lmadmin.exe", "tidspssw.exe", etc.  I am fairly sure there are no port conflicts.  How can I check that all other daemon instances have been removed?

    Jacob

  • Lisa,

I just wanted to let you know that may have got it working.  Using "lmadmin" I shut down any servers running (one for tidspssw), and then closed lmadmin.  Then, I restarted the vendor daemon through the FlexNet web browser interface and it shows status running and the log confirms that it is running.  So, I guess you were correct about multiple instances of it running?

I will test if the Lab computers can access the license server tomorrow and let you know what I have found.

    Thanks again for your help,

    Jacob

  • Hi Jacob,

ok, glad to hear of the progress.  Please do keep us informed.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa,

This is what I am stuck on now.  The FlexNet browser interface says the vendor daemon is running.  Now, in the lab, I get an error in CCS.

An error occured attempting to acquire a license for this product.

    Reason:

Cannot read data from license server system.  The license server appears to be running, but is not responding.

    FLEXnet Licensing error: -16,287

    Thanks for any help!

    Jacob

  • Hi Jacob,

is that the exact message you recieve?  What do you see in tne vendor daemon logs?  How did you set the license up in CCS?  Do you have a very strict proxy or firewall system?

    Best Regards,
    LIsa

  • HI Jacob,

I just wanted to check whether there is any update to your enquiry?  Where you able to get past the error?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa (or anybody!),

I am seeing the same issue as Jacob was. One minor note, and I think it's a red-herring in this problem, the error uses "lmgrd" and on our system the service is lmadmin. Both the license server and the build machine I'm trying to connect with are Windows Server 2008 R2 machines.

Exact error (with server name removed) from Help\code Composer Studio Licensing Information\Show Technical Help:

Cannot read data from license server system.
The license server system appears to be running, but is not
responding.  If this persists, notify the System Administrator.
(The license server manager (lmgrd) and vendor daemon processes
    should be terminated and restarted.)

I can connect to the license server via the dashboard from the build machine and see the 5.99 licenses. Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Ken,

could you please provide full details of the setup/steps taken.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Interestingly enough, your "please provide full details" led me to the solution. Here's what I did and what fixed things. I feel a bit foolish about this now, but it might be something that could be made more explicit in the setup link (first step below).

    1. Install of FLEXNet as detailed on http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/License_Server_Administration_for_CCS on Server A (including placing and adding the TI license and daemon and adding the TI daemon).
    2. Verify via dashboard on Server A and Server B that I can see the service and that I have the TI licenses available.
    3. Install of CCS on Server B. Added license server 'Server A' Port 8090 (Port was the mistake)
    4. Launched CCS and got errors. Opened firewall ports, used telnet to make sure something was listening, pulled hair out.

When I was going through and verifying what I had done, I noticed the port. I changed it to 27000 and CCS is now coming up as licensed.

    thanks,

    Ken

  • Hi Ken,

great, very happy to hear.  All the best with development.
