Hardware breakpoints on an Xds510USB+ on a 6455.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

Should they work?  I am using CCS3.3 and the hardware breakpoints don't show up on the "New" menu in the breakpoint window.

Thanks.

Rich.

  • Rich,

This should work.  Much of our old advanced event triggering training was done on C6455 and TCI6482 with CCSv3.3.

I would check that your 3.3 installation is up to date and has the latest Spectrum Digital drivers.  I will try to track down the h/w to test.

  • John,

Still no joy.  I have the latest SD drivers, 6.0.999.0, 6/25/08.  Reloaded them just to make sure.   CCStudio is V3.3.82.13, Code Gen tools 6.0.16, Bios 5.32.01, ID 5.98.

The only thing I can see is when I open Component Manager, the "Advanced Event Triggering" selection is greyed out with "Event Analysis" and "Event Analysis - Command Object" greyed and not selectable.  They are tagged as Excluded Plugins.  Is there something that didn't get selected when I did the install?  What causes a plugin to be excluded?

It is a custom configuration with the 6455 hooked to the Jtag with nothing else in the chain.

    Thanks for any help.   Rich.

  • I am not able to locate one of these boards.  I am checking if any other team members have access to one.

I opened component manager for my install and for me advanced event triggering was also disabled.  I was able to enable it though.  The command objects were plug-ins that added menu items and toolbar buttons.

Is there any chance that you could try CCSv5?  You could use if for these debug scenarios and keep using 3.3 for your build environment to avoid migrating your projects.

  • Hi,

Just adding to John's response, I get the New --> Hardware Breakpoint in my v3.3 running under XP 32 bits (check the attached screen).

I am running CCSv3.3.82.13 (all the updates applied) and the component manager has a Breakpoints entry that points to C:\CCStudio_3.3\plugins\joule\breakpointmgr with two child entries that sport version 5.98.0.404.

I am not sure if this object can simply be re-registered or if it will require a reinstallation of the tool, though.

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Ok.   I think I know but it makes no sense.

I did a re-install.  Reloaded the drivers.  Changed my configuration.  Hardware breakpoint as an option in the breakpoint window under new seemed to come and go.  Narrowed it down a bit and came up with this:

If I have a workspace saved and it has the breakpoint window open in it, only the software breakpoint selection seems to show up the next time I enter.  If I re-start, load my workspace, still no hw bkpt.  If I reset emulator and connect, no hw bkpt.  If, after connecting, I close the breakpoint window and re-open it, now I have hardware breakpoints and a whole lot of other stuff visible in the "New" menu.

So, if I am loading a workspace, as long as I close and re-open the breakpoint window after connecting, I get hardware breakpoints.

It makes no sense.  I hope this works properly in some later release.

    Thanks for the help.

    Rich.

  • Rich,

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for reporting this workaround. Unfortunately CCSv3.3 code is frozen and there is no support planned to it anymore. The current mainstream version is CCSv5 and active development / bug fixes is being done to it.
