CCSTUDIO-THEIA: Only white screen with CCS Logo - GetVSyncParametersIfAvailable

Part Number: CCSTUDIO-THEIA
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO, SYSCONFIG

Hi support team,

I have installed CCS Theia on Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS in /opt/ti/ccs2101/.

I followed the instructions:

  • ran sudo install_scripts/install_drivers.sh
  • sudo chown root:root chrome-sandbox
  • sudo chmod 4755 chrome-sandbox

But I just see a white screen with the CCS logo and it never finishes loading.

To troubleshoot I did not use the desktop icon, but started CCS Studio from command line. I see this error:
/opt/ti/ccs2101/ccs/theia$ ./ccstudio
Configuration directory URI: 'file:///home/uzc2fe/.config/Texas%20Instruments/CCS/ccs2101/1/theia'
Configuring to accept webviews on '^.+\.webview\..+$' hostname.

[173143:1019/094708.647090:ERROR:ui/gl/gl_surface_presentation_helper.cc:260] GetVSyncParametersIfAvailable() failed for 2 times!

How can I fix this? Which additional logs might you need?

  • Hi Clemens,

Can you try running CCS with the --disable-gpu parameter and see if that helps?

    $ ./ccstudio --disable-gpu

    Thanks

    ki

  • Okay, I tried it: the error messages on the terminal are no longer there, but still it never finishes loading:
    /opt/ti/ccs2101/ccs/theia$ ./ccstudio --disable-gpu
    Configuration directory URI: 'file:///home/uzc2fe/.config/Texas%20Instruments/CCS/ccs2101/2/theia'
Configuring to accept webviews on '^.+\.webview\..+$' hostname.
    CCSGuiComposerBackendContribution loaded...
    CCSBackendApplicationContribution loaded...
    CCSPluginHttpBackendImpl loaded...

I only see this pulsing logo...

  • Thanks for trying. I will need to investigate with engineering further. This is a native Ubuntu machine (not a VM), correct?

  • Yes, it is a Ubuntu native machine. These are the inxi specs:

If there is any logfile that could be helpful for the investigation, please let me know. I am a pretty new user of CCStudio.

Not sure if it is helpful, but plain Eclipse Theia (v1.76.0) installed as "AppImage" runs without problems.

  • Can you try --disable-gpu-sandbox instead?

  • Okay, I tried --disable-gpu-sandbox now, no change. I still only see this blank splash screen and it never finishes loading.

  • Thanks for trying. I has escalated this issue to engineering. Do you have any kind of security software like antivirus, etc running on that machine?

  • Hi Ki,

as this is a company provided machine, I have to have Intune and Microsoft Defender installed and running.

I tested to stop and disable apparmor and mdatp (systemctl disable and stop) temporarily though and run CCS afterwards - it did not fix the situation.

  • Please provide the CCS Server Log and Theia Log. They can be accessed from "Help -> Support".

  • Hi Ki, I would love to send you those reports, but as I said earlier I just see a white splash screen. I have no access to the Help Menu. If you tell me where those file might be on the harddrive I can sent it to you.

  • If you tell me where those file might be on the harddrive I can sent it to you.

Does this folder exist for you?

    /home/<user>/.config/Texas Instruments/CCS

If so, is there any content in there? If so, please zip the entire CCS folder and attach to this thread.

    Thanks

    ki
