CCSTUDIO-THEIA: debug console usage and inspecting a variable

I've just loaded CCS v21.0 and am debugging an example application on the m core of am64.
I would like to be able to examine a variable e.g. cnt. In vscode and earlier Eclipse systems I can go to the Debug Console and type things like

cnt
&cnt
cnt & 0x3f

This does not seem possible. Anything I enter in the debug console reports Invalid Frame Index. Surely I don't have to add it to the watch window, view it, and then delete it.

I would like the previous behaviour of an immediate window.

Is this possible?

    That functionality should exist in the Debug Console:

    This is the first time I've tried to use CCS THEIA so I was not sure if it had been designed out. Anyway, in my case it seems to affect version 21.0.1 and fails for me on Ubuntu 24.04 and Windows 11 25H2


    I downloaded version 20.0.0 to Ubuntu only and it worked as I expected
