Compiler 4.0.1 vs 3.3.2

Hello-

We're currently working under CCS5, but we've found issues with both compiler versions supplied to us (4.0.0 and 4.0.1).  As a result, we've reverted back to using 3.3.2.  However, it appears that our versions of 3.3.2 are code size limited, despite the fact that we have fully licensed versions of the IDE.  Is there any way to get an unlocked version of the older compilers to use under our current license?

Thanks,

Ian

  • Hi Ian,

what messages do you receive that make you believe you are being code size limited?  What version of CCS did you download?  For v4 the code size limited version was a separate download.  Have you upgraded to a v5 license?  Have you tried installing the production/full 4.2.5 version?

    Best Regards,

    LIsa

  • Lisa-

    1) Output file "<project>.out" exceeds code size limit.  This error message does not occur when using 4.0.0 or higher.

    2) We were originally using the code size limited version of CCS4, so it's not entirely surprising that we're running into this problem.  It was because of this limitation that we actually upgraded to the fully licensed version.  But the version we were given was version 5, on DVD.

    3) We have not, as far as I know.  My co-worker who has also been dealing with this is currently out of the office, and perhaps he has, which may be why he hasn't run into this problem while I have.  We're fine using CCS5, so I'd rather not have to install the full version of 4.2.5, but it would be nice to get access to the compiler, at least.

I think that answers all of the questions?

  • Hi Ian,

ok, do I understand correctly that this code size limitation is only something you are seeing in v5?  This makes sense as a v4 license will not work for v5.  You either need to upgrade or else purchase a v5 license.

If you also see this with the full version of v4, then I would recommend trying to remove the code size limited installation and just going forward with the latest full version on your license.

Unfortunately compiler versions and downloads do not circumvent licensing.

Please keep us informed whether the above understanding is correct and how you would like to proceed given your options.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hey Lisa-

When we use 3.3.2, regardless of whether in v4 or v5, it appears to be code limited.  We have a valid v5 license, but no valid v4 license - our license was only bought last month.  Prior to obtaining the license, we were using the code limited version of v4, which is where our versions of 3.3.2 appear to come from.

Given that we have a valid v5 license, I was hoping that we could also get a valid version of 3.3.2/3.3.3, as versions 4.0.0 and 4.0.1 do not appear to meet our needs at this point in time, and those are the versions included with CCS v5.

    Thanks,

    Ian

  • Hi Ian,

ok, now I think I understand.  What I can do is see if I can get permission to send it to you offline. We will need to verify your license information.  Your v5 license will work with v4, however, it seems as suspected, the old 3.3.3 compiler version you have must be from your initial code size limited installation/download.

If you can prepare your license information I will try to get the ball rolling here.

    Cheers,
    Lisa

  • Thanks, Lisa!

Yes, we never got our hands on a full version of CCSv4, otherwise we'd just be using that.  Hopefully you can just get me a version of the compiler, as we're happy with CCSv5 as a development environment, just not 4.0.0/4.0.1 as compiler choices.  And of course, whatever licensing documentation you require I'll be happy to provide (although I might need to figure out how to get it out of our IT department's hands first...)

    Thanks again.

    Ian

  • Hi Ian,

just send me a screenshot of Help->Code Composer Studio Licensing Information.

    This should be ok.

I would say download the full 4.2.5, however it likely will not come with the older cgt versions anyhow.

    Cheers,
    Lisa
