CCS5.1, No source available for 0x0

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F2272, MSP-FET

CCS5 (5.1.0.09000)

Coded a Li-ion charger using the MSP430F2272, and it works great. In order to fully test the charger algorithm we need many cycles through different batteries, so I am using the MSP-FET tool to monitor what's going on inside the MCU.

A normal charging cycle will take a few hours.  CCS5 (while in debug mode) will stop monitoring the MCU randomly, I managed to only finish one proper charging cycle without the IDE outputting this error:

"No source available for "0x0"

view disassembly (on a button)

The MCU keeps running and is alive but CCS5 disconnects the MSP-FET, which messes up the whole point of the test, which is to monitor how long it takes to charge a discharged battery.

I'm running this on windows XP SP3 but get the same error on another computer running windows 7.

  • HI Terry,

have you only tried with CCSv5?  Do you use low power modes?  I am wondering if what might be happening is that you are losing the connection due to the chip entering a very low power mode.

Do you have any further diagnostics you could provide?

By the way ... in coming versions of CCS we will be introducing some new MSP430 tools which might be of interest to you.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Customer did not have this issue with CCS4, however I read somewhere on the forum that this message was hidden, never displayed.

Not using Low power modes, however everything is interrupt driven, which means the main.c has only a:

              While()

                 __no_operation();

Tried having the main loop toggling a GPIO just in case it was the issue but no success. Same error.

    No other info yet.

  • A little more on this.

    --

I think I got a temp fix for it:

    1. Turn on computer (Fresh turn on cycle, must be turn off and then on)
    2. Disable antivirus (ESET NOD32 4.2.71.2)
    3. Open CCS5
    4. Remove any breakpoints for older sessions
    5. Debug
    6. Add breakpoints again
    7. Run

So far yesterday I managed to fully charge a battery without the error.

I am trying the sequence again today, it is running fine at this point.

The real challenge is to find which of the above items is the one creating the error.

I will start isolating them as time permits.

  • Hi Terry,

please keep us informed as this type of information can help us improve going forward.  My money is on the antivirus program as we have seen some issues with various antivirus programs so it would not surprise me.

    Lisa

  • It is the antivirus.  Somehow while it generates a weird signal or a check-up that disconnects the VCOM port from CCS5.

  • Hi Terry,

glad to hear the issue was found.  All the best with development and thanks for the update.

  • Hi,

I am trying to program a TI CC4306147 development node. Sometimes the program loads fine, but sometimes I get this error "No source available at 0x0".

I tried to disable the antivirus and try loading the program, but this does not work either.

Also, the problem is very erratic. For different boards, the behaviour is different.

Any information on this issue would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bhaskar

  • Hi Bhaskar,

I getting same error. Have  u  found any solution for this?
