Updated code composer - can't find emulation options for existing projects.

Hi!

I've got a number of projects, and I updated to CCS 5.1

I'm testing an MPS430-F2013 chip, and I've got to the point now where the programmer, and the circuit are at opposite sides of a room.

I'd like to emulate the chip so I don't have to keep walking around, but when I try and set the target to "F2013 [emulation]" - I can't find the option anywhere.

Back in Code Composer Essentials, there was a quick drop down option I was able to change to emulate the device.

Is it still possible - if so where? Or have TI removed the emulation options for this chip?

Many thanks,

Sarah

  • Hi Sarah,

could you please explain a bit more what exactly you mean?   In CCS most of the target setup for the MSP430 family is automated.   Ie no need to select spy-bi-wire vs jTAG.  For the most part when you create a project for a specific MSP a normal user does not need to do more.

Please let us know what you need and of course we will do our best to assist.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Are you looking for the MSP430 simulator?  The software simulator for MSP430 is no longer available.

    John

  • Thanks Lisa and John for your feedback.

I'm sorry I wasn't quite clear - it was as John supposed - the MSP430 simulator, though I didn't know its official name.

    Thanks John!

I've got an old copy of CC-Essentials that came with my ez430-F2013... I hope I'm not a company-client renegade if I were to install it on a virtual machine for the simulation options?

John, do you know why it was retired? Was it something like simulation accuracy issues, or was further development for new chips not cost effective? It's a useful tool. =)

  • Sarah,

It was retired in favor of instead focusing effort on low cost development kits like LaunchPad and eZ430.

    Regards,

    John
