Compiler definition is not available

Hi Paul,

when you installed CCSv5 - did you install Stellaris support|?  what version of v5 are we talking about?  What OS? 

This message seems to indicate it can't find the compiler tools.

What do you see if you go to Window->Preferences->Code Composer Studio->Build->Code generation tools?

what if you try pointing CCSv5 to the compiler version from CCSv4?

Yes I installed Stellaris support. I think that is the only option I choose. Version 5.1.1.00031

how did you attempt to import the project?  Did you go to Project->Import existing CCS/Eclipse Project?  What version compilers do you have in v4 and v5?  Did you try pointing v5 to the v4 compiler version as I suggested?

I still get the error. I have run many versions of CCS4 with no problem. I did run an early version of CCS 5. Maybe this was not fully uninstalled?

possibly, you could try reinstalling the latest release into a different directory.  But what import steps did you take?  What I mean more is .. when exactly does this error occur?  Screenshot?  Any error logs?  If you wish to send your project offline, we can try to reproduce the issue here.

what exact example or project are you trying to import?  Could you send the project offline (friend or conversation request)  Is it a C6000/DSP project?  If so, you have no C6000 support installed.  Rerunning the installer will let you add this.

You could give that a try in the mean time.

Hi Paul, before we do that there is one thing I just noticed.

I think the problem is that you are using the wrong import utility.

Please create a fresh workspace and make sure to import with Project->Import existing CCS/Eclipse Project ..

After the failed import was there a log file located in the project?  It would have the full details on the build definitions that CCS was looking for.  For each version class of the compiler there is a build definitions plug-in that provides all the build option information for that compiler.  If the corresponding plug-in is not present that error will pop up.

I created a new project and compiled code. I can not get the software(CCS5) to see my Stellaris In Circuit Debug Interface hardware, the Test Connection button is grayed out. 

Any suggestions?

During a debug session none of the debug keys seem to work. Step Into(F5), Run To Line(Crtl R) for example. Only the mouse works on a few commands.

I re-installed CCS version 5 without adding the  SlickEdit plugin and debugging now works. Still can not import a project

do you get a different error?  Can you send a screenshot?  Do you think there is a chance you can send your project offline or a trimmed version which shows the same behaviour?  What v5 version did you install?

Hi Lisa,

I receive the same error when I try to import a project. My eclipse plugin SlickEdit and CodeComposer can not co-exist. It is possible I can not import projects because of a SlickEdit modification to the eclipse project files.

On another note, do you know how to display function prototypes in CCS5? Can tooltip behavior be modified?

Window->Preferences->C/C++->Editor->Hovers

More information on tool tips: If I disconnect the target the tool tips change behavior. With the target disconnected the tool tips now display function information with the ability to browse the function. Changing perspectives did not seem to have an effect?

can you please send a couple screenshots or further information?  I just tried to reproduce this and I am not seeing the same thing.  Whether or not I am in a debug session and connected the tooltips/hovers seem to work for me.

I tried on the latest released version, 5.1.1.

I will see if I see the same thing but I am wondering if the fact that it does not seem to be able to load the variable/expression properly in the view might be the problem. Could you try this in a case where you do not get an error?

It seems that you were never successful in importing specific projects into CCSv5. If its possible could you attach the .cproject and .cdtbuild file from the original project? We'd like to take a look at it to see if we can identify the reason for the import to fail.
