downgrading MSP-430FETUIF killed it

I upgraded to CCS v5.  The project leader is still using CCS v4.  I tried to use my old CCS v4 IDE to make some changes to his code.  I got the following error message:

Error initializing emulator:
No USB FET was found

I imported his project in to CCS v5 and got the same message

After reading the MSP Debug Stack page I tried the downdate program,  It went into a loop, asking me to confirm disconnection, then asking me to confirm reconnection.  After about a half-dozen cycles I gave up.

Now no one can see the emulator.

What's next?

  • Hi Jim,

have you tried the version of the upgrade/downgrade utility through the start menu?

CCS v4 will only work with dll v2

CCS v5 will only work with dll v3

Did you double check, as indicated on the wiki which FET version you have?

Can you try downgrading and seeing if you can program the FET with the free Elprotronic tool?  www.elprotronic.com    there is a utility in the Tools menu.

    Please keep us informed.

    Best regards,

    Lisa

  • Hi Jim,

I just wanted to double check whether there is any update to your enquiry?   Was the information useful?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • I know this is an old post, but I had the same problem last week, when I tried to downgrade my MSP-FET430UIF on a Windows 8 64-bit machine. The problem was that the downgrade process failed because Windows couldn't recognize the FET after a first stage on this process.

I tried to continue the downgrade process on a Win7 machine, using the latest Elprotronic's Lite FET-Pro430, without success. The only way to unbrick my FET was to use an old version of Lite FET-Pro430, one that don't use the version 3 dll and ask it to update my FET.
