How to resolve the errors during programming

Please show the types of P and n.

P and N is integers, i want to write (-1)^(n-1), but "^"  is this oparator  valid in ccs programming , i dont know. I can write (-1)^(n-1) or (-1)**(n-1) in MATLAB.

but in dsp there is error like" expression must have integral type"

Please read the thread Aarti suggested.  The "^" operator is a valid integer operator, but it does not mean exponentiation in C.

I see nothing about the expression you've shown that would lead the compiler to emit that error.  Could you please post a complete, small function that demonstrates the problem?

Assuming that you want -1 to the x power, for some integer expression "x" (in your case, it's supposed to be n+1; make sure you declare n with some integer type):

signed int result = (x) % 2 ? -1 : 1;
