simulation in code composer

Hello,

i just started to use code composer studio. All i want to know is weather it is posible to do simulation on pc or do i need hardware for my code?

I just want to run some C and assembly code and see the result. there is no particular hardware i want to test it just want see the simulation how it goes.

also i wanted to write some assembly code in that context, so how can i achieve all that ..i am quiet confused.

some one help!!

You can run one of several cycle-accurate DSP simulators (imcluded with CCS) without any DSP hardware. How you enable this depends on the CCS version, but typically you just choose a TI DSP simulator instead of specific hardware at the point where that option is one of the pull-down menu choices.

The same coding procedures are used as for actual hardware. I recommend starting a New Project with the Hello, World template. get that to run correctly, then modify and add source files to the project to change the application.

when and where exactly do i get this option..please elaborate. also i build "Hello World" program but did that without selecting any device in options.after building where can i see the output?

Hi Vinod,

I'm glad that you make it work, just to add to the previous answer there are differences between the simulators, check this link

It talks about simulator and how to choose a simulator in CCS v4, in v5 is pretty much the same thing.

@Johaness : Thanks ...that link clarified my doubt completely.

but now i am stuck in something else..after i run ma code completely say now "Hello Wolrd!"....at the end it gives error as

'No source available for "C$$EXIT() at /home/Vinod/CODE_COMPOSER_WORKSPACE/work_space/demo/Debug/demo.out:{3} 0xdd00{4}"'

can any1 explain this?
