CCS v5 Floating license problems

I installed a new CCS v5 floating license on my Windows XP computer.

I am struggling with this for the 2nd day now. I followed all the instructions and finally got it to show "Licensed" on the bottom left corner of the CCS screen. But after reboot I get "Unlicensed" again.

At one point I was able to get "Licensed" again by performing the next steps:

1) Menu Help --> Code Composer Studio Licensing Information --> Manage
2) Pressing Add
3) Reentering the same Address and Port  that already exist in the License Location list.

By the way which Address and Port numbers should be input here?

But now it just does not work.

Any quick help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Danny

  • Hi Danny,

can you provide more details on how you configured your server?  The port will be that set in your server (typically 27000).

    Have you double checked

    - the license server is running and(as a service as described in the setup instructions)  the vendor daemon is running.

Do you get any errors or messages?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Yesterday I uninstalled and re-installed FlexNet.

I followed instructions on the link http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/License_Server_Administration_for_CCS#Windows:_graphical_setup
(there were errors installing Visual C++ SP1 Redistributable Package so I finally gave up and skipped it).
    Screenshot:

In CCS I added a new license location with the IP address of my computer and the port No (2247) that was shown on the screenshot above.
While doing this CCS hanged up. I forced it down and this time it started with the expected "Licensed" label on the left bottom corner.

But my troubles were not over yet. After rebooting my computer and running CCS, the "Unlicensed" label showed up on the left bottom corner.
I verified that the license server is running as a service and that the vendor daemon is running. I then found out that the port number in the "Vendor Daemon Configuration" screen was different this time.
I had to stop the "Vendor Daemon" and
fiddle with the vendor daemon port address (I forced it back to the previous number 2247). I than restarted "Vendor Daemon", restarted CCS and got the expected "Licensed" label on the left bottom corner.

This time rebooting and restarting CCS was successful. So at list now I can work from my own computer.
I am now hesitant about turning and rebooting my computer. Hope no surprises will occur on the next re-boot.
I also hope I will be able to use CCS from a remote location which was the purpose of purchasing the floating license (will try next week).

Bottom line: TI instructions for the installation are misleading:

    1) Following Wiki instruction is incorrect:
" To go back to the license administrator GUI in the future, open a web browser and type the URL 127.0.0.1:8080"

To go back to the license administrator GUI I had to type in localhost:8090 to my browser window.

    2) The Wiki forgets to tell you that you have to force a port number.

  • Hi Danny

first of all thanks for the feedback.  Very glad to hear you have things up and running.

    All the best with development.
