Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found

Hi,

When I debug my project I get this error: Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found. My version of CCS is v4 and I have the USB Interface MSP-FET430UIF which works fine with IAR.

thanks in advance, Biara.

  • Hi Biara,

what you are experiencing is very likely due to dll versions. Does your FET appear as a Human interface or a CDC device in your device manager?  Have a look at this wiki:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSP_Debug_Stack

    Please keep us informed.

    Best regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi, thanks a lot for your reply. My FET appears as Virtual COM Port (VCP) protocol.

    The .dll files that appear in C:\Program Files\IAR Systems\Embedded Workbench 6.0 kickstart\430\bin are msp430.dll, MSP430v2.dll and MSP430v3.dll.

    But in C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\ccsv4\DebugServer\drivers only appear MSP430.dll.

Is it related in any way with my problem?

    Thanks in sdvance, Biara.

  • Hi Biara,

please read the wiki .. the problem is likely the dll version and not the files.   In order to use ccsv4 you need to downgrade your FET as described there to the v2 dll.  Is your FET currently a CDC device?  Both cases create the virtual com port.

    Please keep us informed.

  • I read the wiki but I'm a beginner and it's difficult for me to undertand so many information. Well I have the IAR 6.0 Kickstart and like it is written in the wiki the new CDC USB drivers were installed in my PC.

Now I have to follow the steps that appear in http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSPDS_Debugger_Up-_and_Downgrade but i can't find MSP-FET430UIF DEBUG INTERFACE if i follow this step START → ALL PROGRAMS → TEXAS INTRUMENTS → MSP-FET430UIF DEBUG INTERFACE → MSP-FET430UIF v3 to v2 DOWNGRADE.

    Thanks. Biara.

  • Hi Biara,

ok, I think that is because you don't have a version of CCSv5 installed.  You have a couple options

    - install and use CCSV5 which will use the same driver as your IAR version.   Is there a reason you use v4?

    - install CCSv5 for the utility (that I am aware of we have unfortunately not made it stand alone)

    - double check quickly if the free elprotronic tool will do it for you.  they offer a free flash programmer www.elprotronic.com

    Please keep us informed.
