CodeComposer 5.2 cannot find DSP/BIOS 5.41.13.42

Hi Eric,

do you have antivirus turned off?  How exactly have you tried to point CCS to the BIOS5 installation?  If it is not listed in the RTSC products (as you have checked) then the first step is to get this installed properly.  Have you tried reinstalling BIOS5 from the BIOS wiki?

The next step is importing.  You would need to be sure to use the Project->Import legacy CCSV3.3 project.

I just tried reinstalling DSP/BIOS with anti-virus turned off - still doesn't work. I then uninstalled DSP/BIOS via Help->About Code Composer Studio->Installation Details->Uninstall (which doesn't actually uninstall anything in the filesystem), uninstalled DSP/BIOS from Windows, and reinstalled. The only difference is that now CCS5 doesn't report DSP/BIOS is installed in Help->About Code Composer Studio->Installation Details. I then uninstalled again, downloaded the installer from the link you provided, and installed yet again - but still no luck. CCS5 refuses to acknowledge DSP/BIOS 5 is installed. As a side note, I just noticed that while I have SYS/BIOS 6.33.04.39 and 6.33.05.46 installed, CCS only finds 6.33.04.39.

how have you tried pointing CCS to the BIOS versions?  Where do you have them installed?  What OS do you use?

I'm using Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1. DSP/BIOS and CCS are all installed to C:\TI. I've not done anything to point CCS to DSP/BIOS, as I was under the impression that CCS would find it automatically if it is installed to one of the paths in the automatic tool discovery path, which is set to the default of C:/TI, C:/Program Files (x86)/Texas Instruments, and C:/ti. Interestingly enough, CCS's online help browser does find the DSP/BIOS documentation.

have you tried pointing CCS to BIOS5?  You can do this by specifically adding it under Window->PReferences->Code Composer Studio->Build->RTSC->Products.

all I can do under Preferences->Code Composer Studio->RTSC->Products is add a path to the tool discovery path. I've tried adding the directory the DSP/BIOS directory is in (C:\TI, which obviously does nothing, as that is already in the path). I've tried adding DSP/BIOS's directory to the tool path (C:/TI/bios_5_41_13_42), which also does nothing. I've tried running CCS as the user with administrator privileges CCS and DSP/BIOS was installed with - doesn't work either. If there is any other way to add a tool to CCS, I'm simply not seeing it.

have you tried not forcing compatibility mode?  How did you install CCSv5.2 in originally?  Would you be able to send us the files from your installation from the installjammer registry directory?  (found under program files or program files(x86)).  Do you see the BIOS5 version in your add/remove programs?

I did not force compatibility mode. I log into Windows as a normal, non-administrative user, and simply run the installer, which then asks for the login and password of a user with administrative privileges. As you can see from the attached InstallJammer logs, my road to CCS5.2.1 was somewhat convoluted. I initially installed 5.2.00069, and then attempted to automatically update to 5.2.1.00018, which failed and left me with a broken installation. I then uninstalled, and reinstalled using the full 5.2.1.00018 installer. And yes, I do see DSP BIOS in add/remove programs - it appears as "DSP BIOS 5.41.13.42 CCSv4".

I am wondering if it has to do with the "convoluted" installations.  The fact the add/remove programs has BIOS5 seems to indicate that it  has likely installed ok.  One thing to verify .... could you double check whether the folders in your BIOS5 installation are not empty?  Ie just double check that things got unpacked and installed correctly.  How did you uninstall?  What if you remove the folders manually.  Please also remove the conents of the installjammer registry before reinstallation.

How did you do the fresh installation?  I would recommend using the latest veresion, offline installer and making sure that you do not use directories with spaces or accented/special characters.

the folders in my BIOS installation are not empty (they contain about 2102 files in total). I uninstalled using both Windows's "Uninstall program" and the uninstaller executable that is installed with DSP/BIOS. The fresh installation was done using the latest offline installer that was available at the time, which was 5.2.1.00018. The install destination is C:\TI.

So, is there any chance to fix my problem without having to uninstall/reinstall CCS5 yet again and hoping the problem will simply go away ? How does CCS5 detect tools like DSP/BIOS, and is there any way to get a log file to try to figure out why it isn't working ?

Hi Eric,

there is really only one thing I would recommend checking before recommending a fresh installation.  Have a look at the unzip utility and folders used.  We have seen some issues/problems caused by both the unzip utility used as well as temp direcotries involved.

Not to confuse the issue here but I have been following this thread because I am having much the same problem with DSP/BIOS 5 not being seen in CCS 5. It all worked in CCS4. Nothing suggested so far has helped the problem.

I unzipped using Windows Explorer, though I don't know if that is a normal feature of Windows 7 or a feature of 7-Zip, which is installed on my machine. The temporary directories used are whatever Windows and/or 7-Zip uses by default (C:\Users\doenges\AppData\Local\Temp, I would assume).

If I do need to reinstall, do I have to uninstall/reinstall the other TI products I have installed first (currently cgtools 6.0.29 and 6.1.12, and the MCSDK 2.0), or should CCS be able to find things that have been installed before CCS ?

Hi Eric,

you should not have to uninstall the other components.  However I would recommend it in case the issue was with one of these.

In uninstalled everything CCS-related, removed all "InstallJammer Registry" and then reinstalled CCS 5.2.1.00018. To my great surprise, DSP/BIOS 5.41.13.42 seems to be part of the normal install and was present - and even better, CCS could find it. I then let CCS automatically download and install updates. Life looked good.

I then installed MCSDK 2.00.09.21. On startup, CCS told me it found loads of new products, and asked if I wanted to add them, and I told it to go right ahead. Now the following products are no longer recognized by CCS, even though they are still installed:

DSP/BIOS 5.41.13.42

SYS/BIOS 6.33.05.46

XDCTOOLS 3.23.3.53

IPC 1.24.3.27

Note that in the case of the last three products, there are now two versions installed, with CCS only finding the older version (I assume the newer versions are part of CCS5.2.1). Since I obviously have nothing better to do, I then uninstalled the MCSDK using the uninstaller in the MCSDK directory - which doesn't uninstall everything it installed, by the way - but this doesn't change anything. DSP/BIOS is gone, probably until I uninstall/reinstall CCS yet again.

ok, there is one thing I am thinking that is worth checking. 

Please do reinstall CCS but do not install or uninstall the MCSDK yet.  Let me know once you have done this.  I think one possible cause of the issue is a selection during the MCSDK installation.

Hi Eric,

Where can I download MCSDK?  I'd like to try reproducing your problem.  As I understand it - you install CCS v5.2.1.00018, and you do see all the target-content products in the Preferences > CCS > RTSC > Products page.  And once you install MCSDK, CCS loses some of the products from that page?
