Win7 crashes when debug with large data model

Hello all,

strange things happen: I did just try to use the large data model in my project properties for the first time, since I wanted to use all of my internal FLASH memory ( MSP430F5437A )and therefore I need 20 bit pointers. Whenever I press the debug button and the compiler ( CCS 5.1.1.x) starts working on the files, after some time ( 10 seconds ) the complete PC crashes without any error message it simply shuts down and I have to turn it on back manually.

Anyone had that bug ? What could it be?

I am working on Win7 Ultimate, perhaps it is an already known issue, since programming is getting more and more buggy in all applications :(

Thanks for support.

Seb

  • Hi Seb,

are you using non english windows?  Do you get any error logs or .dmp files generated that you could send?  Does this occur with all projects and workspaces?  What about other targets?  We would need a bit further information in order to help you.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,

I guess I am working on the german Windows, since I am in Germany :)

Sorry I do not have anything for You to work with, I hoped perhaps that is a known issue.

I just tried it 3 times, honestly its really a pain to restart everytime I tried, so I wont try anything with large data model anymore on my PC.

    With regards.

  • Hi Seb,

one thing you can try is to make sure you have more than just msp430 support installed.  On non english windows this has been know to cause crashing in some cases.  You can run the installer into the same directory and that should give you the option to add stellaris/C2000 support for example.

So this only occurs with the large data model?  Are you running our latest released version of CCS?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa
