CCS5.2.1.00018 Install Problem

We are experiencing a problem installing CC5.2 (using ccs_setup_5.2.1.00018.exe install file) on a WinXP 32-bit machine.  The CCSv5.2 installation completes and displays success at the end, but we only see Eclipse components when we run.  We tried uninstalling and reinstalling without success but we noticed the following failures displayed towards the end of the setup screen.

The PC has CCSv4 installed and we have not removed it because we're hoping the two revisions can co-exist.  We thought that the note below from the wiki might apply but it says this issue is fixed in 5.2.  Any other thoughts?

7. CCS does not install completely/missing TI components : After installing CCSv5, if only Eclipse components are installed and TI components are missing, it is possible that some repos were not extracted properly. In such cases, check if there is a unzip utility in your system PATH. If so, remove or rename the utility temporarily from the PATH so CCS installer can use its own unpacking utility.
Note: this should be fixed in CCS 5.2.1 and higher.

  • Ruben,

Do you have the installjammer log for this? That would have additional visibility on why it failed the install or certain components...

Instructions to obtain this log are located here.

    Cheers,

    Rafael

  • Rafael,

    See the log files attached.6562.ccs5_Log.zip

  • Hi,

are you unzipping to/using the program files directory?   From your logs it looks like this might be the case and also might be a potential cause of your issue.

    Please keep us informed.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Lisa,

I tried installing CCS 5.2.1.00018 this weekend and had the same problems as rperezti on two different systems, one Windows 7 and the other Windows XP. That is, I got a basic Eclipse install with no TI CCS functionality. But the Eclipse system stated all the TI specific files were installed.

I solved the problem by renaming the "unzip" utility that I had installed in a directory that is included in the PATH environment variable. Doing this allowed the CCS 5.2.1.00018 installation to complete successfully. When starting CCS, I now get the TI CCS splash screen along with the modifications of the "Help" menu that CCS does to the base Eclipse IDE. And CCS now knows about developing for MSP430 processors.

I renamed the "unzip" utility because of a comment I saw in the support section of the CCS wiki. The comment stated that this requirement for installation would be removed by CCS 5.2.1. Obviously, this is not the case. You might want to make the change to the wiki to note that the renaming of the unzip utility is still required for 5.2.1 installs as well.

My question is: When will the CCS 5.2.1 installation process be corrected so that it uses its own "unzip" utility? Seems to me that this should be a minor change to the installation scripts.

    Regards,

    Richard

  • Hi Richard,

thanks for the update and yes, this is a known problem.  The target is top hope this can be fixed for v5.3.

    All the best.
