CCS v.5.2 linux MSP430

Hi,

for the target Configuration I can't find MSP430 in CCS v.5.2 under linux.

Neither can't I choose the MSP430 family in creating a new project.

Shouldn't MSP430 be pre included in CCS v.5.2

Jonathan

  • Jonathan,

MSP430 support is included in CCSv5.2.  However when installing CCS you select which device families you want support for.  If for some reason MSP430 wasn't selected then you would not see it in the project wizard or target configuration when running CCS.

One thing to note is that for MSP430 on Linux only the USB-FET is supported, there is no support for the eZ430 sticks or LaunchPad at this time.

    Regards,

    John

  • Jonathan,

MSP430 is supported by CCSv5.2.x in Linux (apart from eZ430 boards - check here).

I suppose you selected the MSP430 family of devices while installing CCS, as well as its emulation support, is that so? If not, that would be necessary.

Can you verify if the device support was correct installed? Check if there are any MSP430 device support files under the directory below (supposing that CCS in installed under /opt/ti) by issuing the command:

    user@host:/opt/ti/ccsv5/ccs_base/common$ ls -R | grep -i MSP

Check the attached screen. If nothing is found, it is possible the installation somehow failed - you may need to reinstall CCS.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Hi Jonathan,

a couple other tips/things to check

    - do you launch with the same settings as you installed?  Ie installed as sudo and launch as sudo?

    - could you possibly be seeing antivirus interference?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Thanks, to you all.

It was probably the false configured installation of CCS v.5.2 with MSP430 not marked.
I will, do more test tomorrow morning to know it for sure.

    Bye

I noticed a reference to release of support for eZ430 (for Linux) coming late 2012, is this still on track (didn't see any reference to this in the 5.3.0 preview announcement) ? Will this include support for the Launchpad boards ?

Just tried the update to 5.2.00018 and it still fails with 'MSP430: Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found' when I try connecting to the target.

  • Hi Niall,

unfortunately v5.2 does not support the launchpad/eZ tools in Linux.   This is coming, but the MSP430 team is a better place to post/ask for any answers on timeline.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • I spoke with the team yesterday and currently there is no set timeframe to deliver Linux support for eZ430.

  • Thanks for the update, pity to see it delayed but I guess we can still use mspdebug for loading code. Is there anything the community can contribute to move things along ?

  • Just checking in again, have the 5.3 production and looked at the 5.4 beta but still no indication of Linux support for the eZ430/Launchpad boards (debugging) ... any updates on progress and/or plans ?

    thx ...
