Null pointer exception when trying to open files from old computer

Hello

I am using CCS 4.2.4.00033 on 2 computers. Both computers are running 32 bit OS (xp and win7). Win 7 is freshly installed with all drivers and java/flash updated. When i create a new project and/or new code files, they are created and opened without any problems. However, when i try to open files, created on windows xp computer, CCS throws me following null pointer exception.

Note that i can import the ccs project from windows xp, but can not open the code files. Also i can open said files without any problems on notepad apps. Any tips on what I am doing wrong here? :)

  • Hello,

Could you try using the latest CCS version - CCSv5.2.1? I can't say for sure that the issue is resolved in CCSv5.2.1 but CCSv4 is an older release and being deprecated in support so it is a good idea to upgrade.

If moving to v5 did not help or you need to stay on v4, could you provide the project so we can try it out locally?

    Thanks

  • The guys at my university, responsible for the licenses said that with the license i was given the abovementioned version of ccs is the highest one that i can activate. However tomorow i will download the newest version and check if it solves this problem.  but if there is a possibility to get past this error without installing codesize limited version, it would be a big bonus to me.

  • You can use the 90 day eval license or the code limited license and see if the issue is gone in 5.2.

  • CCS 5 did open everything without any errors. I shall try using it for now, but just in case i shall send you one of the files that ccs4 was unable to open. That will still be a helpful problem to solve, because my colleagues shall remain at ccs 4 (university does not want to hear about new licenses anytime soon :) )

  • Thank you for trying out with CCSv5 and glad to hear that the issue is resolved there. I will also try the file in CCSv4 to see if we can reproduce and offer a workaround for v4. But note that v4 is being deprecated in support in favor for v5. So any bugs that are in v4 but not in v5 is low priority. If possible it is best to move to v5. And regarding license, if v4 licenses were purchased within the past year, you/they are eligible for a FREE upgrade to v5 (since with the purchase of v4, you get a free one year subscription which covers any major updates).

    Thanks
