CCSv5.2 SW update failed

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EKS-LM4F232-DVD, CCSTUDIO

I recently purchased the EKS-LM4F232 eval kit and the DVD which was shipped with it was blank so I went online to download the DVD from here: http://www.ti.com/tool/eks-lm4f232-dvd

I installed CCSv5.2 from this as a full install (all packages installed) on a Windows 7 64-bit PC. Upon doing a check for updates, I found many updates to install. I allowed all updates to be processed from the update manager. During the installation the installer simply printed out "Installation Falied" many times (never saw anything which indicated success).

Figuring that the install failed I tried to go and check for updates again. Now there are no longer any updates found. In the C:\ti\ccsv5\eclipse\configuration\org.eclipse.update\install.log it is indicating that there were some successful updates (such as Bios 6 v6.33.04.39). When I look at the installation details (Help->About Code Composer Studio->Installation Details), it still indicates that BIOS 5 v5.41.13.42 is installed.

Is this indicating that the install indeed did fail? Is this the expected behavior?

Thanks,

Kyle

  • Hi Kyle,

depending on the tool, an update might certainly give you a separate new version.   What is concerning is that you are seeing errors/installation failed.  If you run the check currently do you still not find anything?  Would you be able to send the installation logs to us?  These logs are in the installjammer registry directory found under program files or program files(x86).

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa,

The thing that concerned me about the version number is that Code Composer Studio is reporting the older version number as what is installed in the About dialog. If I was successfully updated to a new version I would have expected this version number to reflect it. And it is correct that if I run the update checker it will show that there are no updates available.

Here is a zip of the logs found in the directory you specified:

    0268.InstallJammer Registry.zip

  • Kyle,

This failure looks the same as another case that was reported recently. In that case, the initial part of the CCS update was downloaded but after the CCS restart, network connectivity was lost. The update program is assuming that if network access is present before the restart, it will continue to be present. Do you recall any issues with network connectivity after you restarted CCS to install the update?  Also, do you know of anything unusual in your network proxy configuration? One other possibility I was considering is if the Eclipse proxy settings were different than the system proxy settings and whether this might lead to an update failure.

  • There is a very good chance of this happening ... I don't have administrative rights on my computer so the download was done intially and then some time later (possibly the next day even) I had someone put in the credentials for administrative rights. I coud have lost connection while doing this. I am sure that there is some kind of proxy that we are required to go through, but another engineer has the ability to do updates properly w/o changing the proxy information.

  • Kyle,

I think your cleanest bet would be to download and install the full 5.2.1 release (from the CCS download page) along with the other board package you mentioned.

We can try to revive your failed update, but this is going to be a bit messy as we would need to clean up each of the failed installs. Nevertheless, if you want to give it a try, here is what to start with:

    -exit CCS

-open a command window and cd to \ti\ccsv5\eclipse

-run this command: eclipsec -application org.eclipse.equinox.p2.director -uninstalliu com.ti.ccstudio.installer.win32.feature.group

-then, run this command: eclipsec -application org.eclipse.equinox.p2.director -installiu com.ti.ccstudio.installer.win32.feature.group -repository http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/CCSv5/Updates

-then start ccstudio.exe and let the installer run again

This should clean up the 5.2.1 service release install. A similar thing would need to be done for each of the other failed installs. I will need to determine which others would be affected by looking through the log.

  • Is there an easy way to determine what failed installs there are? When I did the upgrade there was probably 50+ things which were in line to be installed and there were an equal number of "Installation Failed" messages printed out during the install.
